Raid Boss guides, Video VS Text - what's your preference?

I was wondering, what do people generally prefer for learning tactics?

As for myself - lately it feels that I'm in minority for not liking video guides.
Unless fight has some specific visual gimmick, I prefer to have a well-structured written summary rather than video with voice explanation.

We'll as a male you are more likely to be learning from visual effects. We tend to have less imagination off things we can't see (Porn comes to mind....).

If I had to say for myself, Id say I really just like to wipe on bosses...THE WORST THING is to do a raid boss, where you haven't tried it much before, but the other people inn the raid has. You learn so fucking much by wiping...learning by doing afterall. I renember inn my old guilds HC ragnaros wipes (Like 300 wipes, never had a kill before I left it), I become so good to the fight I could inn the end turn on the TV and not stay focused on it. Wiping sucks, but its a great tool for me to learn.

Videos often make it seems abit to easy, and not to complicated-

    Both/All.
I watch guides, kill vids, read forums, read written guides and ask other raiders who have done it.

The best guide is LFR + written guide but I prefer video and text. You want to see the mechanics if you really want to be prepared.

I would rather not use any guide and just figure it out myself but most people are not into that .

    A combination thereof for sure.

I like videos for positioning and a general overview - then written guide for specifics - then usually back to the video to try and review how certain mechanics work in detail, in parallel with the written detail.

Both for me. A lot of times just reading it doesn't do enough, you need to actually SEE it. However many of the videos make it look so easy compared to how it really is, or it's from a different PoV (e.g. I'm a tank, watching the PoV of a hunter isn't really showing me much beyond the basics of the fight, and doesn't tell me what I need to know as a tank, but provides a good overview from a different perspective)

I much prefer text. The only reason I watch video guides is to see the timing between the bosses abilities as this is rarely mentioned in text guides.

I generally do the same that Zabuzan does. I start by watching a video, and then go into written guides for details. Having already seen the video i know what ability it is about and what it does exactly, and how to deal with it... knowing the specifics, i go watch the video again, preferably a different one.

Also I read on mmo-champions quite a bit on "help us on xxxx"-threads where people generally indicate what the biggest issues in a fight are, and solutions to it. Bringing that knowledge to the raid helps heaps imho.

watch vids, read text, participate in beta or ptr, talk to others that have, then wipe. NOTHING can fully prepare you for the feel of the flow of a fight more than taking your licks.

Same here. First I watch a video guide if there is one available. If I do have enough time I watch the VOX Immortalis full length videos, because they are pretty good and very detailed. After that I would give the boss a shot during Raids. Preferably if you have some time to spare in your ID just do some tries to get a feeling for the fight and see with which abilities you have the most trouble with. Afterwards you can go into the details of the bossfight like, deep understanding of some mechanics, cheesing some abilities, plan cooldowns, CC and so on. I usually do this by all the media that's available. Starting with dungeon journal or written guides, of course reading some of those many help threads on these great forums here, and going to watch kill videos on youtube. If there are class specials I tend to watch the classes POV videos where you can see which ability is used when.
