Why do the Alliance look after the Draenei, Worgen and Gnomes?

And what, other than refuge are the Gnomes, Worgen and Draenei getting out of the deal in respect to dealing with their own internal issues?

This is borne out of the discussion of whether Alliance should have High Elves, whatever your views are on that, keep it to one of those threads. What I want to ask is why the Alliance bother looking after these refugees races?

It's pretty clear to me, that so long as they remain refugees from their own home towns that they can't really offer the Alliance much of anything. By contrast, the Horde refugees; Goblins and Darkspear seem to be well equipped to having been relocated and re-established themselves in their new homes and the Darkspear have even gone a step further and retaken their own ancestral home.

So, why do the Night Elves, Dwarves and Humans put up with it? The Gnomes have done little more than retake the surface of Gnomeregan and done nothing with it to advance from there. Indeed they seem to struggle to keep what they have. The Worgen are confined to a tree at the northern edge of Darnassus doing precisely nothing whatsoever, while the Draenei are still living out of the hull of a crashed spaceship. They can't look after themselves, so what exactly are they offering as part of an Alliance in return for the protection they're being given?

I ask because it's pretty clear that their own story can't progress and they can't be shown to be helping in any meaningful manner so long as they're still effectively refugees simply because it doesn't make any sense that a faction unable to properly rebuild and resettle isn't going to have too many resources to be going out saving the planet.

To be honest, it's bad storytelling for a start. Sure, it's a tragic story, but three times over it's become a cliche to tie these races into the Alliance and it's also painted them into a corner. They can't go out because they lack numbers and resources, but there's too much else going on to really go back to them to move them along and establish them properly. So what to do with them, and how, if new races are to be given to the factions in future expansions do we tie them in with some actual establishment so we don't just end up care-bearing yet another tiny community that ultimately doesn't really have much to offer.

    Gnomes
We all know they bring technology, but they are now not just exiles and refugees from Gnomeregan, they're exiles and refugees from Ironforge too. They're tied up in their own mess, and are unable to contribute significantly to Alliance endevours. Dwarves have been shown to have taken the lead in bringing and operating battlefield tech on the front line, under Human command. If they can't help the Alliance and the Alliance appear to have all but stopped helping them, what's their future as a part of it?

    Worgen
Tiny in number, they're exiles and refugees from Gilneas, survivors of one catastrophe after a another. No homes, no resources and apparently many seem too focused on finding a cure for the curse to offer much to their own kind, let alone anyone else if we look at their settlement at Raven Hill.

Gilneas itself would be strategically very important, but there seems little or no action on that point, while by and large they actually appear to be exploited by the Night Elves in their military endevours.

    Draenei
Small in number and until recently, very focused on consolidating their islands and repairing the Exodar. That done, they just seem to be hanging around because they've made themselves a sweet home with little to trouble them. A bit of a token gesture in troops to defend Lion's Landing, but realistically given their low population, could they really offer much more than that anyway?

Why does the United States look after Israel, South Korea and Taiwan?

Strategic locations. If you don't help them, they could fall to the enemy. No matter how bad or useless they could be ... as long as they are on your side.

Some races do seem to hang in a sort of dormant state with no leadership changes, progress or worldbuilding going on for them. Massively missed opportunity I think.(MMO! hahaha)

The Gnomes are the main source of technology of the alliance

If you read Velen short story, you know that Exodar have become one of the main point of Alliance refuges (they are more like healers)

Worgens add the alliance more power and force to fight in the easter kingdom (top)

you are not really answering Jessicka's question
she is not asking why they are members of the alliance, (it's obvious the gnomes, draenei andG Gilneans, as nations, add to the strengths of the alliance)

she is asking why those groups aren't rebuilding homelands for themselves the way the Goblins and Trolls are.

Ask Metzen / his team why he / they can't be bothered with writing anything for the Draenei / Worgen.

Neither have advanced at all since they were introduced to the game.

the Gilneans, to be honest, have become refugees so recently and their homeland is still crawling with foresaken forces and the foresaken would surround them from both the north and east so Retaking gilneas at this point seems un-feasible.

The gilneans could build a new home for themselves somewhere else (like the goblins) but it makes sense that goblin build faster, that's just what they do, build-build-build.

    . . . .

There is not excuse for Gnomergan still not being retaken, i mean seriously we killed death wing and the lich king and can't retake one city? (get your act together alliance)

    . . . .

Exodar is a crashed space-ship, but it already functions as a city, it seems to me Azuremyst isle is fine place to live, I don't think the Draenei aren't rebuilding a homeland, they have already settled into Azuremyst isle, (i mean they haven't changed much about it, but they are long-lived people, perhaps they just do things very slowly).

The gnomes actually constitue most of the Alliance's technological forces. They build the pounder bots, helicopters, maintain the deeprun tram, submarines, and probably the airships.

The real reason why the draenei and worgen don't appear to do anything? Lazy blizzard storytelling.

cut the gilneans a break, they have basically been refugees for only a few years. what do you expect they could have accomplished in that time? The Draenei, well, see my arguments abov.

This TBH, the Draenei got lost in the whole "Emo stories of the blood elves"-thing that a lot of the Outland-questage was, and the worgen were upstaged by Derpwing and his little cataclysm, at the end of the Gilneas-zone they were stuck in the Forsaken's plaguelol-advance, shunted off to Darnassus and promptly forgotten.

I don't understand why you include the gnomes. They create most of the alliance technology, including their airships.

The worgen are all over the place now acting as shock troops for the alliance that can rival the strength of an orc or a tauren.

The draenei aren't really protected by the alliance they seem to be capable of looking after themselves, plus they'll be very useful come the fight to the legion and I can imagine they'll be on the frontlines protecting us.

Because Blizzard has shitty story writers that can't be arsed to give these races some lore developement.

Because they're an ALLIANCE, they are not in it for their own agendas like the Horde, they are in it for the good of all, and while the gnomes, draenei, worgen might be dragging the Alliance down at the moment, when they get back on their feet/Blizz gives them some lore they will all be a force to be reckoned with, the dwarves, night elves and humans know this.

OMG people the OP is not asking why the aforementioned races are allowed to be in the Alliance, or what purpose they serve in Alliance activities

she is asking why they are treated like refugees and not encouraged to set up their own individual home-capitals.

The Alliance look after them because they're nice people who do get at least something from the friendship.

How does it make sense in the long run? It doesn't. Honestly, there are Horde races who should be just as incapable of settling down. In Warcraft III the tauren were a tiny tribe on the verge of extinction and the trolls were the survivors of a tiny little island tribe. In fact, every Horde race is the last of their people after a terrible catastrophe, while the Alliance has several nations that were relatively untouched by the Third War and other major recent conflicts.

The balance of how competent or widespread any given race is has never really made any sense. The biggest recent example: the Kor'kron. How can a fraction of a race devastated by two wars, their own planet exploding, and the fracturing of the remaining clans going their separate ways, possibly stand up to the rest of the orcs, let alone the rest of the Horde and the entire Alliance combined? I mean, obviously we win, but the siege is portrayed as a desperate fight that requires everyone in order for us to have a chance.

Yeah but without that little push from their allies the gnomes and draenei seem to dawdling. The Gnomes are 30 year olds who still live with their parents.

If Gnomes are so useless, why is there a questline in Ashenvale where the Night Elf Sentinels have specifically called the gnomes for help?

If Worgen are so useless, why does Genn stand at the left hand of King Varian Wrynn? Why do they fight the Horde in Felwood?

If Draenei are so useless, why is there a contingent of them in Valiance Keep offering aid to the humans there?

More importantly, why do people think it's okay to make arguments that are inherently racist just because the subject is fictional?

Gnomes provide a technological advantage over the Horde, even though the Goblins of Bilgewater have joined the Horde; Gnomes are more creative, while Goblins just blow sh*t up.
Draenei have more likely in lore secured both eh Azuremist and Bloodmist isle's, and provide more warriors to bolster the Alliance's armies.
Worgen are the only case where you may be right, but I'd imagine that even now they're fighting the Forsaken for Gilneas. Even without they are mighty warriors with their curse so scratch the doggies backs and they tear the enemy to pieces with there big ol' woof claws

Draenei gave refuge and a place to stay to every adventurer going through Outland.

I think they have done well enough.

Plus if you finish the Draenei quests they actually control the entire of azuremyst and bloodmyst.
Bow down before our new furry overlords!
