there were no changes to Jewelcrafter gems. If you're under any ilvl scaling you'll have either a buff explaining it, and it will show on the mouseover tooltip per item.

I haven't had my gear scaled since long before 5.4 (have yet to try proving grounds and got 9/9 gold long ago), but I'm curious - did they make gear downscaling affect gems somehow? It never used to. I'm assuming that's what the OP meant? I mean, it would make sense in some cases with high end gear - assuming they handle it right.

If you were on a lower character I guess it's because of them being usable on heirloom gear now? If they are, I think all enchants are now anyway so it would make sense if gems were too.
