There's also the funny fact that Cruz would be doing nothing other than hurting the country since Obamacare funding won't be affected on Oct. 1.

Shut down the government to stop Obamacare, despite the fact that none of the stuff that will stop will effect Obamacare! Hooray!

The 'debt ceiling' is fucking retarded. Lets not let the Treasury pay for the shit we already approved via legislation, without having MOAR LEGISLATION. YARRR!!!!

That even with his attempted filibuster, it won't change anything. Especially since they vote is taking place tomorrow anyway. Be it with or without him.

The only point of a debt ceiling is that it is a self-imposed limit at which point a country is supposed to reflect upon their habits and reverse course. Of course, instead of recognizing their own warning - they just say "meh, not like I'll be in office 4 years from now! Burn the country down - blame it on the next guy!", and both parties are completely guilty of it: I'm not picking on either one here.

The bottom line for politicians Should be the best interest of the country and the people (all of them) who inhabit it. Instead, they seem to be confused with the fiduciary duties of corporations - in which their bottom line is the best interest of their investors (in their parties/campaigns). So politicians (at least in the US system) are essentially obsolete, while "politicians" are just low-paid lobbyists doing pro-bono work to pay their dues before they can get a higher paying job at the company/industry for whom they lobby.

Americans have the choice to elect their preferred lobbyist, just so long as they aren't a populist.

But the debt ceiling has no bearing on what congress can spend or what they choose to fund. Everything that leads up to the debt ceiling is already legislation passed by Congress. There is no point to it, what so ever, beyond trying to wrangle political concessions over the future of the economy.

He's still going, despite the fact that they are voting this afternoon regardless.

Oh by the way, he read Green Eggs and Ham during this filibuster last night because his daughter was watching before bed. These fiscally conservative patriots sure do know how to make the most of our tax money.

Between this and pretty much every post I've seen from you, I think your problem is trying to have an opinion on things you clearly do not understand.

Passing next year's budget. Cruz wants certain items removed from the budget so that the ACA gets repealed simply because there is no money to pay for it. He doesn't seem to know that the ACA will be funded no matter what is or is not in that bill he is filibustering because it was put in a previous budget that was passed. Raising the debt ceiling only means that new stuff can be funded; the ACA was budgeted for 2 years ago.

See the fun fact is, it doesn't matter. Hes been talking for what? 18 hours now? But he and Harry Reid had an agreement that he would stop talking at about noon today and have a vote. So he is talking for NO REASON. He is filibustering the vote to pass the House bill of defunding Obamacare. Which even if the government shut down from the votes and lack thereof, Obamacare would still go into effect.

Yep, this is pure publicity grandstanding.

There is no political gain for Mr Cruz to do this; there is no chance the Senate would vote to defund Obamacare/ACA if they could (Obamacare will happen because it has been budgeted for already) and they wouldn't be able to muster 66 votes in the Democrat controlled Senate against the ACA to counter the inevitable presidential veto anyway.

All Cruz is doing, right now, is running up the expenses bill for the Senate sitting. I thought the GOP was against wasteful spending of government money? Or does that only count for cutting programmes that help the poor?

Well that, and there's always this too:

What Is The Impact Of Repealing The ACA On The Federal Budget?
What Major Components Result In The Net Increase In Deficits?
What Would Be The Effect Of Repealing The ACA On Discretionary Spending?

For the most part, though there is some dissension among the ranks and some of them are actually smart enough to realize that there is no good outcome for them in this.

Republicans be republicaning, and marginalizing themselves even further. The GOP is letting these few idiots (Cruz, Boehner, Palin et al) ruin its chances of winning the trust of swing voters, and won't win any significant gains until they cut these troublemakers out.

It is a shame, but one thing I've learned about the Republican party is that people can act stupidly and say abhorrent things and not even get so much as a slap on the wrist from their colleagues, so it isn't really surprising that they allow themselves to be dragged down.

Whats funny is there was a show on Fox News that was getting information to make Cruz look bad when the Republicans found out that Cruz was going to be on it. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/poli...icle-1.1464667 Its sad and scary that Ted Cruz is teaming up with the dumbest woman in the world. But it is just HILARIOUS to see that the Republican party is fighting like toddlers, even moreso than the Republican vs Democrat squabble.
