Im the healer who started in WotLK, played at the begining of Cata and MoP. 3 weeks ago i have returned to the game one more time.
Currently with friends we are raiding SoO flex.
My problem is that when i check logs (@ world of logs) after raid, I am really low comparing to our other pug priest.
What is most strange for me is that on Skada or Recount during play, my numbers are much more closer to his. Where is this difference from? Is it realy me? If yes, what can i improve?
(I know im missing gems and belt enchant - upgrading process, but this should not make so huge difference).
They have better gear than you, and they also don't heal almost exclusively with atonement.
And Recount/Skada numbers can be different from WoL ones depending on how you set up your meter. Overall healing is different than fight-specific healing for exemple.
As someone who has just come back to the game after a long break, gear means a lot more than I remember it did back in wotlk/early cataclysm. As a dps I cannot even compete with people that have the legendary cloak at the moment and it's frustrating having to wait for so long to be useful.
I would also like to mention that when it comes to healing, sort of what Naer is hinting at, the raw "heal" numbers or the recount/skada at the end of the fight usually has no bearing on if you actually did your job correctly. Raid comp and how you do the boss fights can have a huge effect on your "numbers" at the end of the day. One thing I struggle to beat into my healer teams heads is that it isn't if you have the highest HPS on the meters, its if you killed the boss. Yes it is nice to see your name shining on the top, but its just not going to be the case always.
Our raid group has a disc, rdruid and MW monk. I'm constantly reminding our throughput healers (Druid and MW) that the disc priest will enevitably "win" the meters on every fight that we outgear in normal modes. PW:S, SS and Aegis snipes all the healing that could be done be either of the other two. Even on our first Garrosh kill our priest was quite far ahead of our druid (2 healed) by a good 20% if I recall correctly.
I've always been of the mind for dps and healing meters as well as logs this 1 rule: They are there to compare yourself against others of your SAME class on the SAME fight. Use them to compare spell usage, uptime of hots/buffs/dbuffs, acitivity, spell choices etc. They are not there to say "You did poopy because someones number is higher than yours."
Just some food for thought!
You are already looking in the right direction by asking questions and looking to the logs as a way to improve, not as a source of competition.
