    Your stance on world pvp?

Question might be phrased badly, so a follow-up question would be: "What makes you kill another player in-game?".

We all encounter other players while doing things, some prefer to play friendly or just stick to what they are doing, others go out of their way to kill every player of the opposing faction they encounter. I find it interesting because there's different ways of approaching it. I don't consider this a "do you like world pvp or not?"-kind of question, but rather a scale and where each person draws their line.

Me personally, I consider myself a very friendly player. I might have started fights back in the early days of WoW, but for the last couple of years I stick to my stuff, I don't kill alliance-players I come across, because I have no reason to do so. And if I did, it would just be a waste of time, and I might get revenge coming my way (which would slow me down even more) if I chose to start a fight.

Despite this, like all players I've had my fair share of frustration when being attacked by other players. Usually this comes in tough situations, like me being on a low level alt and getting killed by a 90, or getting jumped by 2-3 players while being alone. When I feel attacked, and when other people start doing shit towards me, that's where my line goes. You could say that I will go out of my way to make that person's life a living hell, which in some situations consists of me corpsecamping them for 40 minutes because they killed me once, without any reason.

As for situations like someone tagging a rare-mob or stealing a mine/herb in front of my nose, I let that slide. If it's a rare-mob I will even help the other player kill it, because I know myself how frustrated I would be if I was killed in that situation. As for other people being killed/ganked, I don't really get involved unless several people witness to being ganked without a reason. If I see an alliance-player attack a horde-player, the horde-player might have started it, so I just don't care enough to help.

I don't want this to become a "world pvp is annoying" or a thread for whining, I'm just really curious how you view world pvp and what ticks you off. Do you just attack everyone when you have the chance, or do you prefer leaving them alone? I have a friend who has a logic that goes: "kill them before they kill you", and that's another approach I've seen with some people.

/Tired, hopefully the post wasn't too sloppy.

I play Alliance. The only thing more filthy than a horde is an alliance censer user who ganks his own faction. I will kill these bastards on sight. I onced teamed up with an orc hunter to kill some gnome warlock with 800k hp (legit stuff, Blizzard). Unfortunately, they almost never gank alone, so it's pretty difficult to bring retribution to these traitors.

I don't go around ganking people. I need motivation and best motivation for me is when the bastards are asking for it either directly by attacking alliance players OR rp-like by attacking alliance npcs. I feel no motivation to gank randoms.

I liked the wpvp on Lion's Landing quest zone because ganking horde was both tied to rp as well as having direct motivation with often clashes between the factions.

Nope, sorry, I'm gonna disagree with that. If I see a 1v1 and my faction guy is losing I will intervene, I don't care who started it.

Alliance player here. If I see Hordie McHorde doing quests/farming/whatever else a few yards away from me, I'll usually leave him alone unless he attacks me first, has previously done something to piss me off, or I otherwise know him to be a dick. I'll usually step in and help if I see said Horde player attempting to gank an Alliance player, unless said Alliance player is someone I know to be a dick, in which case I will /salute the Horde player and go on about my business.

Also, I was usually one of the first responders if someone in guild chat complained about being ganked by Horde. Unless I'm in the middle of a raid or something I can't immediately leave, I'll drop what I'm doing and be on my way out there.

So, in other words, I'm not really one of those "IF IT'S RED IT'S DEAD!!!!111111" people. I will usually mind my own business and leave Hordies alone unless they give me a reason. Most of the time, I'm not the one who started it. But if they DO give me a reason, it's fucking on.

PvP of any sort has no place in the game outside of battlegrounds and arena, Even then it would make very little difference to me if they where to remove PVP from the game all together.

There seems to be only ganking of questing lowies around lately (or maybe they just don't attack my mainchar), which is no wonder, since Blizzard does anything they can to encourage that. It's definitely the only noticeable change cross realm zones brought along besides loading times where zones meet.

I have also met people who will gank others depending on things like: 1. Their name (if it's silly) 2. Their guild-name 3. Their title 4. Their mount 5. Nationality (Like if the name or guild is in a language that reveals the person is from country X)

    I find this fascinating. haha

I liked it back in TBC, where ganking a low level (meaning 5-10, below you) didn't necessarily mean auto-win. When gear inflation started going through the roof in Cata, it started becoming just a pain. 80 to 81 was a big difference (when not raid geared), and 82 against an 80 means easy ganking. Screwed with regular leveling bg's too. It is mainly why I switched to a PvE server, ganking/griefing was made all too easy, and bg's are still available to PvE servers.

It would be more enjoyable if world pvp had level restrictions to prevent one-shots and auto-win situations.

    terrible, unfair and outdated

I'm Alliance and if I see a horde I mostly /wave and mind my own business, but I have had that backfire on me more then once..
Edit: But yeah if I see a Horde with a terrible name I attack him just for being such a fool. I hate people who use words in their name.

World pvp sucks, ruined by pve gear 50-60 ilvls higher than conquest gear.

I feel like it's just fluff at this point. People have a very romanticized view of what WPVP used to be, or "should" be, when 90% of the time it was always grossly unfair and easily avoidable. WPVP was at its zenith when players had an incentive to do it, like in vanilla, or when the zones were busier, server communities were (a little) tighter, and you were forced to interact with players, like on Quel'Danas. God that place was paradise. So many hours of my life spent there...

The game doesn't really lend itself to WPVP as well nowadays either. There's zero incentive to leave cities, there are a lot less players in leveling zones in general, and well... people just don't care anymore, I guess. I know I don't. Stopping to oneshot some level 40 in the hope that it would whine to its friends and come to make war with you was an amusing kill a few years ago; now it's a waste of time.

WPVP for me nowadays is just the first day or two of that new super busy zone coming out, and killing everyone in sight in it. 5.1 and 2 were good examples.

It sucks. Not because the idea is bad, but class balance and Ilvl scaling have made it a lot less fun.

WPvP is a myth all it ever was was ganking people who were questing/leveling and feeling big about themselves. I also find it hilarious PVP players get mad that PvE players beat them in "WPvP" because they are in PvE gear and not PvP. uhh your in the world aka the ENVIRONMENT (the E in PvE) so why would they be using PvP gear when they are trying to do what their PvE gear is for.

I ignore PvP as much as possible not my thing and im terrible at it, but there have been a few times on Timeless Isle where I've flagged myself on a rare by hittting another flagged player, I usually walk away in a "oops my bad" action if they insist on continuing I will fight back win or lose (I couldnt care less) I just respawn and carry on with my business.

PvP has its place and its not in the open world and if WPvP happens it has never and will NEVER be fair so whether you are on the giving or receiving end just suck it up and move on.

Bad low level ability scaling (yes i'm looking at you Devouring Plague, Death Siphon and Arcane Shot) make for bad low level 1v1s .
Also as said above ilvl scaling kinda killed world pvp .
I come across a quiet river, that wonders through the trees.
I stare into its running waters and fall unto my knees.
In resignation to the forest, that's held me for so long.
I close my eyes and drift away into nature's evensong.

It is nonexistant at the moment. We had a fresh breath in 5.4 with censers; but now people have farmed their coins and everything is dead again.

If I'd revive somehow wpvp, I'd of course made 3rd faction of outlaws or something like that. I really don't care about hordies; on the other side, the list of people I would like to kill from my faction contains more than 500 persons. Too bad censers are gone now, it was fun.
