My questions are: does he need a video card? All he really does is edit video/images. ANY changes you would make are very welcome! Eg: go for a 4770k instead of the new 4820k, 32gb ram overkill etc etc. The PSU is obviously overkill, but I want to know if he needs a GPU or not before I lower it

    Any help/tips are welcome!

The question is: How "professional" is the video editing he does? Just hobby or does he earn money with it?

    If professional:
    - switch cpu to i7-4930K
    - switch hard drives to caviar black
    - i would advise at least a lower middle class card (Radeon 7770 or Geforce 650). Depending on the software used, a higher end video card can benefit a good deal: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/GPU13/588 so maybe get even a high end like Radeon 7970 or GTX 770.

    If amateur/hobby:
    - Switch cpu to i7-4770k (+ matching heatsink)
    - switch motherboard to a middle-class Z87 board, e.g. Asus Z87-A or Asrock extreme3/4
    - drop down ram to 2x8GB, 1600+ MHz
    - optional: switch hard drives to caviar black, maybe lower ssd to 250GB.
    - get a middle class graphics card, e.g. at least Radeon 7770 or Geforce 650.

    Regardless of the above:
    - Get either Windows 7 pro or Windows 8. Windows 7 home is limited to 16GB ram.
Why do something simple, when there is a complicated way?
    Ryzen 7 2700X | BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 4 | 16GB DDR4-3200 | MSI X470 Gaming Pro | MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X 8G | 500GB / 750GB Crucial SSD
Fractal Define C | LG 32UK550 | Das Model S Professional Silent | CM Storm Xornet
