I know some people will say well then they would need to remake all these models for dead versions. Well I will say if Guild Wars 2 (ANET) can do it for it's races an that game is buy to play (Buy the game no sub fee) then why can't Blizz do it with it's $15/month?? Just think about running around as a Undead Troll or Undead Panda. Please don't say well you all ready can with a Deathknight. Why this mist be semi true they pretty much are the same but with glowing eyes. I want a Zombie Orc or Zombie Gnome!
For starters, the Forsaken player race is made up of humans of Lordaeron who died from the plague - since we as player Forsaken represent a general sample of those folks, we're all undead Lordaeron humans more or less, despite that a smaller % of maybe high elves and former PoW orcs or something were living thereabouts.

As for continued undead, it's explained in Cataclysm that the Val'kyr who are now making more undead are only able to re-animate human corpses and cannot do so with any other race.

    Presto.

Also, I own GW2 and I'm not certain what you're referring to - elaborate? Moreover, GW2 isn't really a good game to reference about race comparisons because there's like one unique silhouette in that entire game, the other races all pretty much share the exact same one but have different model quirks and textures or drastic size difference. WoW has unique silhouettes for all of its races, with a little bit of similarity and it's one of the only MMOs (STILL, mind you) where each race has unique animations - play GW2, FFXIV, etc... no matter what race you are, your animations are allll the same. So give Blizzard some credit, they do what they can and most of the time they do it well.

RE the OP - I think you're either severely overestimating your own knowledge or severely underestimating Blizzard's; there's a reason for the undead looking how they do and any anatomical/skeletal inaccuracy (mophological? o_O) is likely not because they don't know how ribs are supposed to face or how many vertebrae a human spine has, so while your intent is warmhearted I think, you come off as a wee bit pompous.

Meh, anything is better than what it used to be.

I prefer the original's face, and the stylized spine, but I really like the proposed change to the shoulders.

i agree on the shoulder issue, it's just wrong to have that bone in that position!

Yeah blizzard's looks better. If you're going to spend your time and talents adding rationality to things, I would suggest starting somewhere that's not a fantasy-based video game.

The op is forgetting that these are not just dead people... they are scourge or former scourge, living dead... everything in their being is not normal.
So their anatomy doesnt need to be perfect human anatomy, when they arent using their muscles to move anyway, they are magically alive so they are magically moving aswell... if they werent they wouldnt be able to move at all because their muscles are rotten thus they move magically.

Thats why all the zombies in movies move weirdly slow, its because they are using rotten muscles to move.

Fantasy is never about facts. :P

still like blizzards more, and ppl who support this edited ud version must be playing humans, cuz u know, u come to a fantasy mmo to play humans and anatomically correct zombies

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say they are doing the undead with the intent to make it more cartoonish so players can detach themselves from the fact they are running around as, with or fighting against a dead human body, lets also not forget humans in Warcraft might not be the complete same as real life humans ^^, though the arm socket one I'll give you as that just kinda needs to be attached to something in order for it to work O_o

A side note, the governing bodies that determine the age rating of a game might see fit to increase the age rating of WoW if anatomically correct dead bodies are running around rather than cartoonish dead bodies. I know it sounds silly but people in these positions are silly.

P.S I do like what you have done.

New undead model is worse than the old one and your version is better than both.

Yeah, your version looks way fucking better. Although I really wish they gave us the option on how much and which bones we wanted exposed. That would be pretty nice.
You're getting exactly what you deserve.

I think you did an excellent job, OP. It looks absolutely amazing, and I would be totally okay with having the models you came up with in the game.

But I don't think that Blizzard is shooting for realism here: they're shooting for fantasy. They don't want the Forsaken to look like humans. They have to be different somehow.

It doesn't have to be realistic: these are corpses that were reanimated with magic. If they can somehow "unlive", their arms can find "magical" ways to move even when the bones don't make sense from a purely anatomical point of view.

And the most important thing, in my opinion, is artistic vision. Warcraft has very specific aesthetics, always grounded in exaggerating certain features. Combine that with the fact that the Forsaken must look unique, and not simply like "human corpses", and you get the twisted body shapes.

Again: fantastic job. Your edited model looks phenomenal. But honestly, I have absolutely no problem with Blizzard's view on this, and I think that, when deciding between realism or an artistic touch, they will (and should) stick to the latter.

Have you looked at the human males in Starcraft? The undead male looks like this on purpose. It's a cartoon exaggeration, not an anatomical diagram.

Wow, you must really hate Blizzard to say that the old model is better looking and that a photoshoped version is better than both.

I like the way the bones stick out to look like undead themed biomechanical armor, it's demonic undead magic, forging flesh and bone into weapons and mutations of disgusting and macabre perversions of life and humanity.

You should make it more clear that the one in the top right is half your version because when i've looked at the left shoulder, ribs and vertebrae they all felt so natural that I thought it was Blizz' version....all untill I've scrolled down to see the abomination they have made.

The moment I saw the Undead models I knew something was off. Now I realized that it was the mouth and eyes, a definite improvement. The body is fine, it doesn't have to be anatomically correct because the Undead got altered and mutated magically.

I always thought that the Undead and Tauren would be the hardest to get right. Post it on the Blizz site.
