For goodness sake, the proportions are designed as such to make an identifiable and easily recognizable profile while playing with the core design of a corpse.

There's no stab at 'realistic' proportions because there's absolutely no visual interest in non-exaggerated features in a character, particularly one viewed from essentially 20 feet in the air constantly. You're making the mistake of looking at the character concept from two feet away and parsing judgement, much like you can't zoom into a 1280x1280 texture tile and say it's too pixellated. Much more goes into the design's look from afar and managing it's identity than the specifics of what a real skull would look like. It's that stylization that has made Warcraft near timeless in it's visual element.

I'd argue literally every change you made is a detriment on the style of the character and makes it less visually interesting.

That aside, I actually came here to beg for a complete animation revamp for undead males. The 5-frame wooden hobble and coat-hanger posture we currently enjoy needs to be tossed out entirely rather than simply improved upon with more working parts. There's a reason many people often roll undead females who enjoy a far greater facial variation as well as fluid running/casting animations and a better profile in armor. After seeing that they're literally translating the undead model to a higher poly version without many changes, I fear they're going to import the same posture/run cycles as well, and I'd like them to be at least on par with the female's fluid motion.

    Really prefer your version op.

Post this in the official wow forum. It's almost certain that an official will look at it and even foward it to their devs/art team. As popular as mmo-champ is, it's not official. Post it to their forums.

I do not approve of this thread. I love the new model for the forsaken. Looks looming and creepy.

You know, such graphics as in wow is called stylized for a reason.

    I agree!

I pray to god Blizzard just follow their natural artwork decisions they do at Blizzard HQ.

Everyone has a friggin opinion, and if they follow them, someone else will be upset.

Let Blizz do their thing, it's their artwork we been playing for years.
I don't want to play artwork that is constructed by some peoples opinion outside of Blizzard!

so tards in this game dont get the point of these model updates :/

  13. #133
Why do we have to strive for realism in a massively stylised game? D: Surely getting the character models close to the original ones is Blizzards priority, not making anatomically correct ones. I see the reason for some changes, and while I'd welcome some I think others take away from the art as whole and makes it look less interesting.

There's too many unknowns at this point I think to give good input, plus Undead are like the hardest race to try and get the anatomy of, I don't think their bones are half of what keeps them moving personally so I'm not fussed if the shoulder bones are sticking out and if the ribs seem to be drooping, again it adds to it for me rather than makes me question what I'm looking at.

No offense, but this is a fantasy game. A game where Cows walk on 2 feet (hooves) and Orcs have shoulders larger than a gnomes entire body.

The anatomy of a human being has little relevance to that of a model in wow.
There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want

Id take any of the two over the current one

Cut and pasting this from my official forum thread- whether it was out of love or hate, you got this to the front page! IM FAMOUS *steve holt arms* Lol thanks for all the input. I totally wasn't expecting it.

    Hey all,

I'm going to leave you to this thread- I appreciate all constructive feedback, good and bad, and I just want to leave you with some thoughts:

I am not used to submitting things to the sometimes vicious scrutiny of the internet outside of art communities. I wish I had phrased a couple things differently and been more clear on which side I edited, etc, and made it clear that this was done for my own amusement more than with the intent to hate on Blizzard. That wasn't the case at all. I know all the new models are works in progress as well.

As for fantasy vs. reality, I'm always eager to read what others think about that. I personally believe that fantasy is a richer, more fulfilling experience that maximizes your audience's sympathy when it has anchors in reality- things that you can relate to and identify with that are off in nice little ways. This is of course my opinion, just like everything I changed on the model, and you are all entitled to your opinions! It's all subjective and feathers don't need to get ruffled.

And so I leave you with that. I'll be on tumblr if you need me: kencandraw.tumblr.com. It's likely that I will be doing something similar with other models as they come out, if anyone's interested in that, but I will probably keep them restricted to tumblr.

Thanks for your input. Peace. <3

I like the editing, especially to the shoulder area. It would be something of a challenge to have a wide range of movement while the bones are shoved so far up.
    Alayea - Enhance/Resto (Main) Lithala - BM Gekkani - Holy/Shadow

Except it does, because anatomy in these models being wrong makes them hard to look at. No one is saying that the game can't have magic or talking animals when critiquing the design. It's a critique after all, stop getting so bent out of shape and offer an opinion other then "OP is dumb cuz he doesn't understand da game!".

OP's model looks far more appealing. And even at great distances, no one cares about the model at all. People zoom in all the time to look at their character, no one plays at 20 yards away and critiques their appearance, they zoom in and look at themselves.

Yes but you miss the point, the wow has stylized graphics, like you see in comics and mangas. Characters there don't follow realistic anatomy, and in wow it does neither.
So you may like the version that is anatomical more correct, but because you like it and the fact it is anatomical more correct does not make it the right choice.

    Good job on the changes.
But I actually like the original(blizz) one better, we all have different taste
