I'm a huge CIV fan, I've sunk thousands of hours on 5, and I didn't touch 7 because of all the negatives surrounding it.

What we desperately need is an Alpha Centauri remaster or sequel. Beyond Earth was OK, but nothing special.

I would wait for at least an expansion or two to come out.

I didn't play it a lot, as I refunded it because I didn't find the "glee" in it. I'd probably say it's a 5-6/10 game, and a 4/10 CIV game at this point. I by no means think it's "a lost cause" but definitely wasn't for me atm.

Again, this is my sub 2h impressions, which for a CIV game is not really a lot :P

Alpha Centauri, Master of Orion I/II, Master of Magic. Im very old school on the genre myself, but without a PC I feel my options are limited. Are there some good 4X games kicking around on consoles nowadays worth trying? I gave Stellaris a few shots but it’s just… a lot.

To keep with the spirit of the thread I’d put Civ 6 with all DLC as a very solid 8/10. It just had the same problems the game had decades ago which was poor AI and hitting the unstoppable point too easily once you “get” the game.

    Stellar Blade [8.5/10]

Action combat game from the makers of Goddess of Victory: NIKKE. Game is very reminiscent of Nier Automata, both in story, theme, soundtrack, and overall feel of the game. Almost 100% completion of a single playthrough in a little under 27 hours.

    Pros:
    • Story is pretty good, although a tad formulaic. I basically guessed the "twist" like 20% of the way through the game.
    • Game looks great and runs very well on PC. I only had 1 crash in my ~28 hours of playtime, even when playing with quite a few mods installed.
    • Combat is good with quite a few mechanics to incorporate, paced fairly well throughout the campaign
    • GREAT soundtrack
    • TONS of collectable outfits (~125)
    • New Game + actually has some new content instead of just "same game but keep your stuff"

    Neutral:
    • VERY active modding community, if you're into that. You can probably guess why/what kind of mods are available.

    Cons:
    • The formulaic story. (Yes, it's both a pro and a con)
    • The game is "open world" for the first 4 main zones in the game for lots of side quests. However, at the end of the 4th zone you hit the "point of no return" so the entire second half of the game is linear/on rails. Hope you got all the collectables you wanted/got enough upgrades.
    • Large difficulty spike right at the end of the game. The 3rd and especially the 2nd to last boss are vastly harder than anything else in the rest of the game.
    • Lots of collectables/hidden chests to find in the game, but they all give materials to upgrade some equipment (which once you find one you like, you'll hardly swap off of it), or materials to craft new cosmetic outfits. There are some upgrades to things like equipment slots, but if you do some basic exploration / side content, you'll max those out super early on in the game, so the upgrade components become worthless.
    • Tachy Mode/Spartan Rage is pretty lackluster. Damage is pretty poor despite being a major cooldown power, so I mostly used it to facetank bosses since you can't take damage with it active.
