Thread: New build

    New build

I'm looking to complete my computer build and need some suggestions. I'm looking to spend around 100-150 per item for the upgrade, and at max 100 on the case (USD).
Its for gaming, just gaming. BF4, WoW, D3, GW2 and in the future Fallout4 and Star Citizen.

Right now I have some parts from my current build I'm keeping which are:
    EVGA GTX780 w/ ACX cooler
CORSAIR CXM series CX750M 750W PSU
and I'm getting an i5 4670K from the microcenter this weekend.

A few questions I have are what cooling should I get on the CPU? I currently have an unused Hyper 212 EVO, would this work?
What motherboard is good within the 100-150 price range.
    Is 8gb DDR3 1600 RAM good?
I need a new case that can fit the 780, the issue I had with my current case is it wasn't long enough for my card and I had to take some tin snips to my extra drive bays. Real messy.
I would like an SSD, which brands should I stay away from?

    Thanks!

I have a 4770k @ 4.8ghz with 1.25v, im assuming the 4670k has roughly the same temps as the 4770k clock for clock and volt for volt, so no i would not go with they hyper 212 evo, you either need a higher end air cooling solution, an AIO water unit like a corsair h110, or do a custom loop. An alternative is delidding the cpu and reducing temps, while voiding your warranty unless you have the protection plan.

as far as motherboards go for $150 i would personally grab a

its a great motherboard especially for the price, it has easy overclocking features, the bios are top notch, and all the components on the board such as the capacitors and mosfets are top quality.

HOWEVER, if you want one of the absolute best motherboards you can possibly get for socket 1150 , but still just a bit over your budget then i would go for a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128594

actually i just noticed there is a $30 mail in rebate for that motherboard atm, thats a killer deal. I might have to grab another one and do an orange build :P

Absolutely love this motherboard, i had one very briefly before selling it to a friend, i loved everything about it except the orange color lol, which is why i sold it, my current build is an all red/black theme.

8gb of 1600mhz ddr3 ram is more than enough for modern games, you should look at companies like gskill for your ram

this is the 1600mhz ram i got a while back when it was $49, but now that the prices have inflated maybe you should look at something like this, its $10 more, but its worth every penny http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231587

for your case, i assume you are air cooling, so i would suggest either of these cases as they are both excellent at air cooling and room for watercooling in the future

    corsair AIR 540 -

go for which one you like better.

ATM, my favorite brand of SSD is Samsung, their 840pro series are insanely fast, their EVO series of SSD are really fast as well, and are more price friendly.

    hope any of this helps.

Do I need to go with a full case? I would prefer a mid if possible, but like I said it needs to fit the 780 which is 10 1/2 inches long.

Nope there are plenty of mid tower cases available that have excellent air flow and can fit a 780.
