    Challenge $650-700 budget build.

    • Budget - $650-700
    • Resolution - Standard 1080P
    • Games / Settings - Web/Flash and low resource applications
    • Country - USA
    • No reusable parts. Do not require OS or Peripherals.

After some success with a recent mitx build that I did for a friend, her son approached me requesting that I build a PC for him as well. However, he's made his request somewhat tricky.

    Additional Requirements
    • 120-128GB SSD for boot/primary applications. (250-256 would be nice, but I don't think the budget can stretch that far.)
    • 1TB Data drive.
    • Space for additional data drives in the future
    • Appropriate PCI slots for future addition of GPU (Friend expressed interest in dual monitors in the future), as well as a dedicated sound card.
    • Bluray reader AND Bluray writer for dual read/burn action.

Motherboard support for 5.1 (or 7.1) surround would be a plus, though I still want a spare PCI slot for a sound card in the future (in case he opts for a dedicated card).

I'm still in the air on what CPU to opt for. I'm leaning toward a G1610, but I'm not 100% sure how it will perform when it comes to burning blurays compared to an i3. Obviously that'd be huge in terms of budget allocation. Otherwise, I'm leaning towards Asus 12B1ST (BW & BC) for the optical drives and a WD Caviar Blue for the data drive.

As always, I welcome any advice from the forum as it never hurts to get more input.

without a dedicated GPU it will perform poorly in modern games. If he can forego the SSD, he can just about reach for a 4670k and a low-end Z87 motherboard.

ETA: if he has a MC nearby, even better.

Leaves a bit of cash for the pizza your friend will give you for building the computer
