    Thinking of buying GW2

So I am starting to be bored by WoW and I am looking at other options available. I kind of like the idea of GW2 and I played during one beta weekend and liked it. However as I started to research it, I found a lot of negative opinions to this game. So is it worth the money or should I rather buy something else?

The only review you need to watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax-_06Acj8Y

If your idea of a great MMO is all about Heroic Raiding you will think GW2 sucks since there is no traditional, instanced, gear-gated content for more than 5 players that you need to work on for months. Everything else in GW2 is about a million times improved.

you missed the "In my opinion"

I would not buy it again tbh. Leveling is aweful imo. There is no real goal you achieve. PvP is okay. God luck not longer that imabalanced.

I just went through the same thing.. End of the expansion and aside a few small daily tasks, I am done in Wow for the next few months.
I did buy GW2 a few weeks ago... I love it! It took a while to get use to. Combat is fast, Questing works different.
Dungeons don't start till a higher level and we have a LFD finder now. The world events that are always happening around you are great! Big rare kills with huge groups of people..
I would say its worth the money... Take the time to learn how the game works... and Watch the chat.. Find the groups going after the rare kills (zerg) Its fun!
PS make sure to take a high pop server since a lot of the game is group stuff...

Leveling is irrelevant. You would do the same shit at max level as you would if you were leveling. Trying to grind max level asap will kill you. Enjoy the game don't make it a grind.

There is no real goal you achieve.
You are wrong. There is a free form goal depending on what a player wants to achieve. Get a legendary? That is a goal. While another person will work on completing all the achievements and that is their goal.

There is no traditional vertical progression carrot on a stick like WoW or Rift.

I received a day one ORAS demo code. I am a chosen one.

    Great game!

But if you are used to wow, you`ll find a little dificult to get used to GW2. The system is pretty different in some cases, i think the game its more mature.

The WvW pvp its all about teamwork, so its difficult to find those 1x1 that you often find while pvping in wow, so for me it didnt work, besides that the lvling is fully pve, on open world, of course you can lvl up while doing WvW, but how can you compete with everyone geared and maxed everything? And WvW is all about following a guy that liders the group, getting the objectives, at the start you find it nice, but it gets boring and boring.

The combat system is interesting, the x5 dungeons are pretty much nice, lots of traps, and things that kill you quickly, so teamwork is pretty necessary. You have to walk with caution or you get killed pretty fast, bosses are fun to.

I got a almost a lvl 50 character so i cant tell you about end game, but i heard that isnt very good, ppl complain about nothing to do.

After all the game is beautiful, could be much bigger, lvling is fun, but theres a lack of lore and immersion, it didnt get me a lot, anyway those are personal opinion.

I think you should try, even if you dont like it, you`ll play a lot until you get back to wow!

    Good Luck!

PS: I got back to wow! lol
Still looking for a wow killer... until there wow is my wife!

Why? If you enjoy wow then why look for a "wow killer"? If you don't enjoy wow then why play it?

I don't mean to belittle you here but I've seen that statement said before in some fashion or another and it just puzzles me.

I can't speak as to whether you will like GW2 long term. However, you do state that you did like the game during a trial. So I am going to assume that if you bought the game at a minimum you stand a chance at maybe 50-80 hours of solid gameplay in GW2.

As to value, that can be answered definitively as a yes.

Considering GW2 is often on sale, incurs no ongoing costs and provides all it's content updates on a rigorous 2 week schedule for the price of the box- it is almost impossible to find a greater value in terms of time & content delivery in any genre, single player or multiplayer game.

    - You pay for the game once. $30 to $50.
    - You are entitled to play it freely forever or until Anet shuts it's servers down.
    - New developer created content is delivered every 2 weeks.
    - The game is in active live development.

It's very hard to beat the amount of content and hours the game provides for that price. Even freely modded games such as Skyrim do not receive continuing active development by the developers or maintain a structured update schedule.

In value, Guild Wars 2 is superb.

That doesn't mean you will like everything or will never get bored. Though objectively, that is a lot for a one time $30 fee.

    Wow is a great game!

Probably the best ive played, but its been already to much time that he`s the only one!

Its hard to tell, but after some time playing, you quit, and go back because of the lack of other games to play... Its not that wow is bad or isnt fun to play, but the magic is gone long ago, the game needs to be reinvented in some points i think... those "pet battles", "garrisons" and that crap stuff isnt fun at all, at least i think, those are just mini-games inside the game, i preffer that they focus on other things...

When i started playing wow i got stoned, the discovery, the learning, was so amazing. Now a days i now almost everything i should know about the game... even my friends that start playing at this point, they didnt receive the same imersion as i got when i started, i dont know if its only me, but i from what i`ve been reading, lots of ppl stop playing at the first month!

Im really faithfull that Warlords of Draenor will be the best expansion ultil now!

    Again with the Angry Joe?
He posted four clips, all of them over a year ago, all of them show nothing of what has changed since then.
Try posting WoodenPotatoes, Chronicles of Tyria, MagicalMike or at least someone who has posted something more recent the when Cro-magnon walked the Earth.

WoodenPotatoes would be a good one to show. While he is a massive fan of the game he still has some good criticism of it.

    Wow is a great game!
Do you have the correct forum, Picafumo?

This is the Guild Wars 2 sub forum. We try to keep discussion here related to or concerning the Guild Wars franchise as gameplay, play experience, news & information and design.

Extended discussion on other games is not really what this forum is about. Though it's fine to use other games in example or relating to a point on a Guild Wars topic.

I just wanna make sure you clicked the right forum before I get my moderator scarf out.

As others have said, it goes on sale fairly regularly & as low as around £20 I think, so it`s only around two months of sub you`d of spent, not a huge amount.
Guess it all depends on what you like to do in mmos. If you state how you spent your life in warcraft, folk can give you info` as to how things were for them/their class in gw2.

The gw2 forums may help, whilst there are some rants, you can spot the fluff from the manure.

P.S. At risk of high sodium consumption, you may want to take Karizee` replies with a pinch of salt, as they`re permanently rose coloured lenses with peripheral rainbow coated unicorns.

GW2 may be for you if you enjoy the leveling process, deciding for yourself what to achieve, and chasing after pretty armor. Also if you like massive pvp where it's mostly just running around with group going from keep to keep. It's mostly a self paced game, there's nothing that is essential to do. The combat is either love it or hate it, you probably already have an idea of that sort of stuff if you played the beta. Jumping puzzles are fun wish the implemented them more often.

What not to expect: Reputations, Mounts, Quests, Raids, Dedicated roles, stat upgrades, any other pvp mode than domination style (or WvW), pet combat, housing, etc.

It's not fair to comapre GW2 to WoW imo because they are just way too different. So you shouldn't expect it to be like wow at all in really any aspect. To me GW2 is completely a niche game and you'll either love it or hate it.

A bit bored of wow I bought GW2 2 weeks ago (when it was on sale). And I'm totally hooked.

Converted 3 friends to it and we are ahaving a blast leveling in this game. Great game for now. I don't know if I will still play it in 6 month, but without sub why should I care ? I can play it and left it when I want, how much I want.

But since two week I haven't loged to wow. And that's something not a single MMO achieved in 9 years (I played everything since wow release. Raided in SWTOR, max level in tera, in Aion, played 1 month FF XIV but always had wow at the same time.)

Fun part is that I was pretty much on the hate wagon when it released. No raiding, no trinity (WTF a game I can't tank ???), level scaling to content. Pretty much everything I can hate on paper. And after one year of looking down this game I like it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I think I am going to buy it and try it, I was just scared because of the overwhelming negative feedback on the internet. As for what kind of player I am I usually solo PvE or do 5 mans and LFR very very rarely raiding with the ocassional BG or two and I am also a bit of altoholic.

I hope you did not buy it yet, as it seems this is the lowest price you will find. http://www.game.co.uk/en/guild-wars-...edition-242861
It's a shame you just missed the 40% offer dirrectly from Anet.

I was in your position just before christmas, I bought it on impulse and have to say, it's fun. Just make sure you research the classes before jumping into one. I started off as engi but it was incredibly boring to level. I got talking to a friend and he suggested guardian or warrior, so i deleted and re-rolled and am having a much better time.

The only thing about the game that is bugging me so far is its optimization. The game runs like ass in cities and I hear it gets even worst in World vs World or large zerg runs. Really not looking forward to that, people with a similar setup to me getting 5-10 fps, which is extremely low considering I could maintain 15+ in games like TERA nexus zones which had several hundred players in 100 yard.

Despite that, i'm having a blast playing. I don't feel forced to login, and getting 100% zone completion is strangely rewarding. You are rewarded for pretty much everything you do. Even if the rumors about the end-game gear grind are true, you'll easily get your moneys worth from just leveling a char to 80, I'm only 25 and I would say it was worth the 20 quid I paid.
