Will you play a Shadow Priest in Warlords of Draenor, first (as main character)?

Will you play a Shadow Priest in Warlords of Draenor, first (as main character)?
And what is your opinion about the Shadow Priest overall, what do you like about it?
What do you want for it? What are you happy with?

I love the Shadow Orbs, for starters. The system is very appealing to me.

I'll most likely continue to play my Spriest. I'm rather attached to her after playing the same character for many years, and could only see myself switching specs at the most.

As for our mechanics, I'm fairly content with the class overall. I would love to have a baseline CD to use during bloodlust/burst, and an alternative to spamming SW:P while moving though.

If they're taking away the shadow priest dots, I will not be playing one anymore. I guess I'll have to change over to an affliction warlock. I started playing the shadow priest because I really liked the dots; they added some extra challenge over other classes.

Yes I will; because I made it through MoP, and it's very unlikely it'll get any worse than 5.2.

Good news for you. Talent 100 choice will give you a new dot that uses shadow orbs but last 60 sec!

I will continue playing shadow as my main most probably (almost certainly).

But is not because of "the specialisation's fine shape."

On the contrary, after Wrath, where things got worse instead of better, with almost everything getting dumbed down, if I was going purely on the state of the specialisation I would have switched long ago.

Shadow to me is supposed to be about using life-draining abilities, the opposite of Holy; in the form of damage-over-time abilities, along with some directly-damaging ones, some crippling abilities and some "vampiric" ones. So, dots, lots of them, of various kinds, to use specific ones on different situations, not just two of them to use almost everywhere. Meaningful directly-damaging abilities, and not the spam of Mind Blast that you have to use almost always when it is up because it is a no-brainer. And abilities like Blackout that worked so excitingly with its procs, forcing me to pay attention, and provided a unique way to deter opponents.

Wrath Shadow didn't have that much depth to begin with, but was fairly challenging compared to most of the rest. But, instead of things getting deeper, they got swallower. I don't know why; I assume to lure-in more players; one more instance of not setting to train new players and low-performing ones, but dumb down things to make things easier for them; lowering the bar instead of teaching people how to overcome it... The result is a specialisation that feels way too arcadey; more moba than rpg. And I don't like that, I want to play a role-playing game.

What I would want with it would be first of all, for the older talent system to come back, with improvements. Talent systems were never about equally-performing choices, they are about having fun creating combinations to your fancy, regardless of performance; and I miss that element, just messing around with builds. From there on, it's what I mentioned, the specialisation should be deep into dots; dots of various kinds for various situations, used in a variety of ways, with some directly-damaging abilities, and some crippling ones. However, there should also be a better learning curve, and better ways for people to get tought the basics of the specialisation and how to seek to improve themselves; but just the basics and the way to imrpove on their own from there on, not the extreme hand-holding that Blizzard is known for. It shoudln;t be difficult to play as a shadow priest and do averagely. But it should be excrutiatingly hard to perform at above 90% for example. That is what depth is all about, providing things for people to find out about learn practice and master if they want to. And please for the developers to give players some credit; we are not mentally deficient; we don't need you to play the game for us; or make things embarassingly easy and straight forward; we just need a good teaching system, one to show us around and instill in us the concept of exploring our characters.

Depends on what happens with dynamic dots and the mindspike talent. Will probably play moonkin if they don't change them.

They *could* have been and should have been, but I gotta agree with GC that most of the time they weren't. The talents that were actually switched around were probably less than the ones we change now; for all purposes there were only two builds per spec: one for PvE and one for PvP. Switching talents was a real PITA (remember when you had to switch to healer before dual spec), and actually changing talents for a specific fight was an unreasonable waste of time even if you had a warlock to summon you back from your trainer.

But yes, I remember shadow being more fun and complex back then, even if it's because I was even more of a noob than I am now.

Shadow Priest main for 9+ years, I guess I will wait and see... I don't really like the changes that have been discussed, but then again its blizzard, 99% of them won't make it live anyway.. and the 4-5 that do will get QQ'ed to death on the forums until they are reverted too. Only time will tell..Getting rid of the legendaries for greens in WoD will make it much less painless to change..

No reason to choose before WoD is about to hit. Basically for me, if shadow stays inferior to locks im going to reroll. Its going to be the same gear now, same tier token, same trinkets/off pieces since no more hit/spirit. The only thing different would be sword vs mace.

Hmm, I'll play her in the sense of leveling her up, but that's it. She's more or less my prof alt now >_<

Yes I will. But going form a warlock with three dps specs to choose from to one and hoping it'll be viable is a risk.
But I have way more fun on a shadowpriest these days since I'm not very fond about the MoP changes to warlocks.
Unless they change something significant I'm sticking with shadow.

Unless they drastically change Shadow for the better I will not play Shadow.

So in other words no :P.

Don't think so, got priest but as a disc/holy. For DOTs, I have already warlock so unless something unexpected happens, no.

I played SP during ToT, I was doing well but when i saw all the warlock utility (portal, healthstone) and DPS, I decided to reroll for SoO, now I have 2 completely different DPS spec that offer a much higher skill cap and as a bonus, i'm nearly always first DPS (except maybe Nazgrim where we "stop" dps during def stance and the Paragons "I swear i am doing single target" Klaxxis).

So i guess I'll keep my warlock.

a skill that will put SW:P instantly to all mobs around the main target would be awsome

I will continue playing shadow, but I really hope they compensate us for snapshoting. Not in the dps kinda way, but skillcap wise. Shadows without snapshotting are just not fun tbh. I think blizzard overexaggerates the influence of affdots on snapshoting. Even though an addon will help you getting off good dots, you dont need the addon for it by any means.
There is a huge difference between good and very good shadow priests atm, and that all revolves around working with dots and proccs. Affdots doesn't tell you WHEN to refresh dots, it is a visualisation that tells you that if you WERE to redot now your dots WOULD be that much stronger or weaker, its up to you to process that information.
Applying stronger dots isn't always a dps gain. You have to weigh the globals you could spend instead of buffing our dotline by 2% whilst the old one is still going to run for 10ish seconds. Is the dotline i will apply now going to be stronger than the new ToF line i can apply in 5ish second when the warbanner spawns? (nazgrim ). There is always going to be a huge dps difference between someone who just listens to what some addon says, and someone who knows what he's doing. If blizzard takes that away every retard in the world will do a close up performance to a top shadowpriest with same gear. If that happens i will most likely specc disc/holy and lvl another dmg dealer. That is when blizzard leaves one specc to actually create room for skillful play, but as it seems they want a community of mindless casuals whom mindsear 2 targets and specc in power infusion. Just my 2c.

It's either Shadowpriest, Shaman or Warlock for WoD, and seeing the expansion might focus a bit on Shamans, I'm leaning towards it.
I've already leveled my Shaman to 90 just in case I'll reroll, with the Warlock on it's way.

It's sad though, I've been Shadow since TBC and this is the first time I've lost hope for the spec. For some reason it feels like they'd prefer if the spec didn't even exist.
It lacks in lore and since MoP I personally think it lacks in gameplay. I guess part of the problem is being a class with 2 healing specs. There's no real choice left, either you suck it up and play or you go healer or roll a new class.

But yeah, it's too early to tell. Every expansion usually brings some form of revamps to every class/spec, so I'm still hoping it'll get better.
