What's your favorite decade/era for music?

Tough toss up for me between the 60's and the 70's.

This was the inspiration for this poll:

Got me to thinking that the amount of creativity displayed in the last half of the 20th century is leagues beyond what I've heard so far in the new millennium.

It almost feels as if music is regressing.

Toss up between 90's, 00's and now. That said I do like a lot of songs from the 80s and prior but I just don't get that vibe from those generations of music as I do current. I can appreciate the fact that there wasn't as much bad music back in the day, but that doesn't mean there isn't good music now.

Too bad I could choose only one. Voted for 80's but there's quality metal since 70's to early 90's.

Forcing a single vote for this one makes you stop and think about it for a moment before choosing. Multiple selections would've made it too easy.

Probably current music, but my collection goes back to the 70's.

whenever this was released, think it was 1994

on a more serious note tho: I love Johnny Cash as well as Korn, Slipknot, Disturbed and other metal bands and I absolutely adore classic rock , so it's impossible for me to say, I love some music from every decade

Nineties grunge scene is really my favorite.

1600-1890-something was huge, lots of great baroque, classical and romanticism going on at that time. :P

As far as "modern" music goes ... there was good and bad stuff at all times. I pick out the good stuff and ignore the bullshit. I don't really think about music in "decades" or "eras". Some great artists I'm into have done great records in the 80ies, 90ies and more or less current time.

Music production wise, I have clear preferences. In the 70ies, drums often sounded great, but melodic instruments had no punch whatsoever. 80ies - everything tended to sound a bit stale and musty. The 90ies had the best sounding records. Metallica's Black Album, or Seal's debut record - that stuff sounds ridiculously good. Huge, massive, super-crisp, super-transparent, but still very warm, musical and dynamic. That was the golden period of music production. In contrast, I hate the way music is generally being produced today. It's really atrocious and people can't even tell, because their musical hearing and listening habits have gone to shit anyway, with all the radio compression, mp3, iPod, internet streaming crap.

The thing with today's music is that you have to look specifically to find quality stuff. It's out there, but it takes deliberate interest to stumble upon it. The main thing is to stay away from radio and mainstream mass media. Pop music was never worse than it is today. It's practically unlistenable for anyone with a halfway refined musical ear and basic taste. It's just the way global industry has developed over the years.

I like metal from the early 90s onwards. The 2000s were a really good decade for my kind of music.

Mostly 90s and 00s - because of the rock/metal. Altho old Metallica was really good which was 80s. But yeah, mostly 90s & 00s music. Even for non metal songs.

I voted for '60s but my music taste goes back to early 50's with some 40's sprinkled in and then into the 70's and maybe a few 80's. After that it's more individual songs that I like instead of a whole genre.

Mid 90's to mid 2000's. Some good sludge, post-metal and prog came out in that time.

It wasn't that difficult to choose even though I think they're all good. I like 90's the most, 80's the least.

I'm Gothic, Industrial, and Metal. Early 90's prior to that horrid Seattle music was the best.

You can't take the whole 90's pack in one, the last years of it was pretty much the 2000 crap pop madness already.

I'd go with a niche between 1985 and 1998 mostly. There will always be great songs and bands post and after, but talking bout general random music.
In the current last decade we also got to see some seriously good bands and music styles tho, much better than the 2000.
