    AMR optimizes me over crit cap?

    Long story short here's my AMR profile: http://www.askmrrobot.com/wow/gear/u...an/shockrateez

    It has me putting hit/mastery gems into my blue socket to get bonus' but past the point where mastery is better than agility... I'm already 2% over hit cap (the way it has me optimized now) Shouldn't it be putting straight mastery gems into sup 180agi bonus'?

    I don't know if I am unable to see the caps you entered because of the link, or if you simply didn't enter any, but the weights in that profile have no crit or mastery cap. Hit "Edit Weights", "Advanced", then enter the cap you want into the system. Enter an appropriate weight for crit past that cap (eg: 0 for never use it, something lower if it has value, just not as much value.)

    Otherwise, try getting it done the way you want, save the profile, and link to the saved profile rather than the generic one, which should preserve any custom weights you enter.

    Those stat weights have:

    Agility = 6.3
    Mastery = 3.31
    Past-Cap (White) Hit = 2

    So 2 gems each giving 160 hit & 160 mastery with a 120 agi socket bonus give you:
    (2 * mastery from gems * mastery weight) + (2 * hit from gems * white hit weight) + (agility from socket bonus * agility weight) =
    ((2 * 160) * 3.31) + ((2 * 160) * 2) + (120 * 6.63) =
    1059.2 + 640 + 795.6 = 2494.8

    If you were to socket against type, and just put in straight mastery gems, it'd be:
    (2 * 320) * 3.31 = 2118.4

    So with those stat weights, you're definitely better off getting the extra white damage & agility over the extra mastery.

    The only question is whether those weights are appropriate for your character. The answer in most cases is 'probably'... AMR's default weights generally tend to be decent, within a couple of percent of an actual custom tailored weights. I have a mate who's quite capable of top 10 ranks who likes to mock robot's default weights - I've run his setup vs robot's default through SimC.. his carefully calculated custom weights are a 0.2% improvement. AMR's default DPS weights are normally better than most people are prepared to give them credit for.

    In practice tho, you could probably gem either way & not notice a difference... those results are too close in value to affect most players.

    PS. I assume you meant hit cap not crit cap(?)... and most "caps" aren't actually caps, they're just points where extra stats become less valuable. The exceptions being hit on a 2h user or caster, and expertise past 15%.

    AMR works like a spreadsheet. It optimizes you for the largest statistical increase but it doesn't take a lot of things into account. You can edit the weights that you want and it will re-optimize but it will always recommend the largest statistical increase even if practical use doesn't pan out that way.

    You have no crit cap set in your Mrrobot link.
