WoW Up to 7.8 Million Subscribers

These numbers are padded by the people who resubbed for 5.4 and by people with multiple accounts. If you unsubbed within the last three months, you will still count as a "sub" because you were active at least once within those months. I've seen a lot of people unsub since the release of SoO, so I expect the next quarter call to be a lot rougher on subscriber numbers.

So you personally have seen 200k people unsub? No, maybe have seen alot but in the same respect that doesnt mean the number will drop for the new quarter; I'm GM / RL in an old time raiding guild on Forstmane-EU and have personally seen around 20-30 returning players for SoO and not seen one guild member or friendly unsub since SoO; doesn't mean number are going to go up the same way you seeing people leave doesn't mean they are going to go down.

Also really happy to see numbers up again; tired of seeing people try to use different excuses to put a dampner on this good news; its like people are no longer happy if they cant scream about WoW dieing with only havving 7 million players :P ONLY 7MILLION?! GAME DEAD INSIDE A YEAR QQ

Congrats WoW! If the WoD announcement can make numbers jump by that much (at least, that's what brought me and my brother back) I can't wait to see how the numbers go up for WoD itself.

AFAIK They've only ever spoken about subscriber numbers.

/gasp...You do know that those numbers aren't actual real numbers right? No website will have real realm pop numbers and the ones that have estimates like wowprogress are based on many factors like for example not everyone uses a single website and some like wowprogress only tracks people who are 90, raid or are in a guild who raids. (Not including stuff lower than normal mode tier 16)
The people they do track is a small % of the actual user base. That's why you see numbers like these.

Uh. Not sure where you got that fact from anyway. My server had sub 3k on it pre-connected realms. Now it's got about 15k.

I'm rather suprised. I'm back for my 10 free days and my realm is empty. It has never been top populated but now it's in really bad place.

Maybe Blizzard should merge low populated realms?

Up 200K? Interesting, but depending on when they recorded that number not really surprising.
The real mean quarter(s) will be between when SoO gets really old for many and the WoD release that still seems creepily far away. :/

Imo WoW doesnt deserve/isnt worth of a subscription anymore. They make major changes to the game ONLY in expansions and provide the same shit all the time in their patches. And their patches come out.. 3-4 times a year? MMO industry has changed in all this time.. but not for WoW it seems. People seem to pay the sub only for being able to chat with their guildies/friends with their super awesome characters with 100million achievement points and 1000 epicz they've worked for years and having fun. Nothing wrong about having fun and feeling awesome, but it doesnt justify the game being worth a sub.

Tbh, I wouldn't even care about dropping sub numbers at all.
In the end, they have absolutely no influence on how much I, personally, enjoy the game.
I really, really like it - be it with 10.000 or 30 people on my server. Heck, I even prefer a low-pop server over medium/high-pop ones.

The only reason why a high sub count is desirable for me is because Blizzard gets more money, which they hopefully can reinvest in the game.

Haven't let my sub lapse ever. Simply too lazy to go through the motions of cancelling and re-subbing in phases of reduced activity. Instead I try to make use of my game time. There's still 1 or 2 legendaries I don't own.

That'll shut up the doomcryers who keep saying WoW is dying because of being too easy, LFR, Legendaries for everyone, etc. WoW is doing just fine, thank you very much, and us players who appreciate the new direction WoW is going will continue to try to keep it going. Lol. Those are toons, not individual players, and also not toons that are necessarily online frequently.

Edit: Oh btw, finding 35 ppl in Org means it's a pretty dead server tbh, I'm used to finding hundreds if not thousands in SW on Silvermoon EU at any given time. 35 is close to nothing.

The "up to" number is a lot lower than I thought. Here I thought wow was still way up there. I haven't checked number in awhile, but 7.8 feels very low. But, that's why they are merging servers.

I normally don't side with the doomsayers, I want to play wow forever, however, I hope they absolutely fuck these forums up in Q1 when SoO is more than 4 months old and subs are down. I hope they choke these forums to death with wow is dead posts. Everyone lulzing because they (I) guessed subs would have gone down, you do realize there is a petty major precident for that, yes? Subs are on/have been on a steady slow downword slope and yet you trash talk the people who thought that would continue cause this is your one moment in the sun. I always chuckle when i see people getting almost sexually aroused by seeing WoW subs drop. Don't they got anything else in their miserable lives to focus on?

Same goes for those that get aroused by sub gains, i mean its a game try not to cream your pants.
