i7 New Build - Semi Future Proof Air Build

This is the proposed build I have planned out give or take a few rough estimates on prices. In bold has already been purchased with roughly $220 spent of my $1400-1600 dollar budget. Any advice or thoughts towards my build would be greatly appreciated as it's my first build. My goal with the i7 is to future proof some with the GTX770, but not overkilling my first system. Only thing I've really left out would be a Blue Ray LG or Samsung Optical Drive.

    Budget - $1400-1600
    Resolution - 1980 x 1080
    Games - Wow/D3/SC2/ BF4/CSGO etc
    Editing - GoPro Editing/AfterEffects
    Country - USA
Parts - Razer Deathadder Mouse, LG 24" LED Screen
Yes, Need an OS. Preferably Microsoft 7 Windows/ 8.1 Pro

    • CPU - Intel i5 4670k ($189.99)
    • Motherboard - MIS Z87-G55 LGA 1150 ATX -($109.99)
    • GPU-EVGA GTX 760 SC ($249.99)
    • Memory -Corsair Vengeance Pro 1866 2x4 (8GB) 9-10-9-27 RAM - ($99.99)
    • PSU - Corsair HX 850W 80Plus Gold Certified($139.99)
    • Cooler - Cooler Master EVO 212 CPU Heatsink ($29.99)
    • HD - Western Digitial Blue 1 TB ($59.99)
    • Fans - Corsair AF and SF - 120 MM Fans (5)($79.99)
    • Case - Corsair Vengeance C70 Arctic White ($119.99)
    • Windows 8.1 OS 64 Bit OEM - ($99.99)
    • ASUS DREW-24B1ST Internal DVDR/RW Burner ($19.99)

    Still to Purchase:

    • Accessories - Corsair Professionally Sleeved Cables - Blue ($79.99)
    • SSD - Samsung Evo Series 128gb or 250gb

First, I wouldn't bother with the i7, unless you have a specific reason to (it does not future proof).

You can get much cheaper, just as good ram.

Not sure why you got that PSU.. But you have it, so can't really do much.
    Gaming: Dual Intel Pentium III Coppermine @ 1400mhz + Blue Orb | Asus CUV266-D | GeForce 2 Ti + ZF700-Cu | 1024mb Crucial PC-133 | Whistler Build 2267
    Media: Dual Intel Drake Xeon @ 600mhz | Intel Marlinspike MS440GX | Matrox G440 | 1024mb Crucial PC-133 @ 166mhz | Windows 2000 Pro

I got the PSU on a pretty good deal from Newegg with a MIR, and it didn't bother me much providing more money a larger PSU for future upgrades or moving to SLI. Number 1 rule I've gotten so far was not to skimp on your PSU. I would like to keep that i7 when going towards 720 or 1080 Streaming as well as editing my GoPro/AffterEffects Footage. Not really necessary to get more then 8 gigs of RAM at the moment for the current games that are out to the public. Throw some links up for some RAM if you have some suggestions please!

Could probably get a i5 4670k instead and up the graphics card as you seems to have at least $400-550 (if I didnt miscalculate).

Streaming yes, another story probably and you can go for the 4770k

I like this ram, the heat spreaders can be a bit too tall to clear some CPU fans, though. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820233147 (It's CAS 8)

if youre going for editing and streaming and editing ditch the i7 and spend the savings on the graphics card or more ram....or both....

Would not recommend. Stupidly expensive for no benefit. Just stick to some standard 1600 for like $65

Well, right now it's a bit steep, but it often goes on sale for around $70. Also, you can bundle it with other stuff for savings on newegg as well. Further, newegg emails you 20% off ram coupons if you shop there a lot.

My budget isn't necessary limited to 1400, but that's roughly the price range between 1400-1600 I would like to be spending.

Eh. I don't rely on 'wait for it to be on sale, maybe, some day' when recommending to people... and bundles are usually pretty worthless. There's no point in saving $20 when you bundle with something that costs $100 more than what you planned on. Bundling $100 + $180 - $20 is not a bargain over $70 + $100.

Yea I dunno a few hundred dollar difference between builds who really cares? I guess if you have to stretch a tiny income that much, then you probably wouldn't be buying a computer in the first place.

I'm not even sure what to say, tbh. A few hundred dollars is kind of a big deal.

Well @Chazus do you have any recommendations towards my build? or instead of a Air Heatsink get a corsair enclosed Water Loop? Just looking for advice before making a purchase of the larger items.

The build itself is fine, but I also still think the i7 and expensive ram are not needed. If you're hell bent on spending money, shave it off those, and get a nicer board and either a Noctua air cooler, or a corsair h80i

I doubt you will need 6 fans to cool the thing unless its going to be mining 24/7. The case might support 6 fans but you dont need to install 6, all it will do is create a loud system all the time and fill it with more dust.

I've thought about getting an H100i with the 240mm res/dual fans. Instead of the Evo 212. Have you guys used the Enclosed Loop Systems before?

Chazus, It will be my first real enthusiast/Gamer Build for any type of computer, and I"m upgrading from a 5 year old Laptop that served it's life through University. my eyes are set on total performance and throwing in an extra $100 or 200 won't kill me. New Job x2, and definitely want something to be proud of performance wise, as well as aesthetic wise.

If you still have your university email address, you can pick up Windows 8 Pro for $70.

Whichever is appropriate based on your current OS.

I can see him sticking with the i7, that's fine, especially if he renders 720p or even 1080p video footage. However OP, I'd suggest some lower profile RAM, just to not get in the way of anything, plus, high profile RAM is often completely worthless and pointless.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231550

This RAM is better, faster, and costs less than the RAM he linked in the OP.

    - - - Updated - - -

Also, OP, if you can cut costs anywhere on this build, maybe the sleeved cables, because really they are pointless and will do nothing for your actual performance, so make sure those are your last priority... increase your SSD to the 250GB range. You'll thank me later. :P
