Ian Hazzikostas on sub races ("brown skinned orcs, high elves" etc)

    http://www.videogameszone.de/World-o...lisch-1110814/

    (around the 7 minute mark)

Apparently hes aware that players would like sub races like brown orcs and high elves and its something they're talking about.

mag'har and high elves are obvious sub races, but what others are there?

You got several dwarf clans and, and... well, they all look the same.

Blizz considering high elves as a sub race is new info though.

Theyve said in the past that high elves wouldn't make a viable race, what with blood elves already, but they'd make a really good sub race. It lets people who desperately want a blue eyed blood elf have their wish but doesnt make them too important or break the lore.

  6. #6
Would high elves be a subrace for humans or blood elves?

I would love to see Dark Ranger models, for either Forsaken or Blood Elf. Fel Orc would be awesome too, but I doubt that happens, despite it making sense (at least for warlocks.)

Which race would they be a sub-race of though? Blood Elves are Horde, so that would be a good ol' lore-break right there, and what else is there? Night Elf? That's one hell of a subrace, which would require different class options and racials.

sub race doesnt have to literally be a sub race. high elves could easily be a human sub race

how? I and plenty of posters here never thought they'd add high elves as a 'true' playable race, and they're not. they're just talking about maybe making them a sub race skin like mag'har.

Night elf is the obvious one. obviously they'd be on alliance and night elves have no other sub races that are any different to them physically.

Blood elves, most likely. It could still be Alliance, there's nowhere set in stone that a race and its subrace have to be in the same faction.

I'd also really like to see the fel elf types that you see in Sunwell (they have red, black or purple skin and some have horns), Dark Iron Dwarves, maybe Broken for the Draenei?

    For trolls I'd assume Revantusk.

    Alliance:

    Humans: Obvious
Night Elfs: None known. Possibly Worgen
Dwarves: Earthen, Wildhammer, Dark Iron, Frostborn, Iron,
Gnomes: Mecha, Voodoo, Jungle, Sand, Frost, Leper
    Worgen: Night Elf, Tailed. Gnome?
Draenei: Eredar, Winged, Different skin colors, Broken, Lost
Pandaren: None known. Possibly Furbolg (would likely require Darnassus start but has no Horde equivalent unless shoehorned into Thunder Bluff)

    Horde:
    Orcs: Maghar, Dragonmaw, Blackrock, Fel
Forsaken: Other races. San'layn. Banshees, Ghouls, Gheist, Skeleton. Chinese models.
    Tauren: Yaunghol. Taunka.
Troll: Zandalari, Forest, Frost, Sand, Jungle
    Goblin: Gilgoblins. Hobgoblins.
Blood Elf: San'layn. Wretched. Felblood. High Elf...but Blizzard seems fairly strict with the Blue Eyes = Alliance bit.
    Pandaren: None known.

Some of these would require more work than others. Others require little more than a color change.

High elves as a blood elf subrace sounds wrong.

If it is implemented, it has to be an Alliance subrace, human for exemple.

But my best guess is that he used High Elves as an exemple only, not really as a reasonable subrace they could one day implement in game.

I honestly wouldn't expect them at all. There's too much baggage with them, especially given how Blizzard has pushed the HElf=Alliance. As a sub raae, they'd work best with Blood Elves.

Human: Arathorian (Vikings), Kul Tiran (Piratey)
    Dwarf: Wildhammer, Dark Iron
    Gnome: Mecha, Sand Gnome (Jawas!)
    Night Elf: Highborne, Illidari
    Draenei: Auchenai, Man'ari
    Worgen: Northrend Wolfcult, Gilnean Human

    Orc: Mag'har, Blackrock
Tauren: Grimtotem, Taunka (Force Helm Hidden)
    Troll: Frost, Forest, Sand
    Undead: Skeleton, High Elf
Blood Elf: Felblood, Darkfallen (Under Sylvanas rather than Lorthemar)
    Goblin: Gilgoblin, Zombgoblin

While there are some here that don't make 100% sense lorewise, there are plenty of subraces and subspecies for each race that would definitely make for interesting customization options. I'm sure the RP community would go wild over these options, being able to be a Mag'har Warrior, Frost Troll DK, Zombgoblin Warlock would open up so much more avenues for character uniqueness without shitting too much over the lore.
    You just lost The Game

Horde already have BE's the high elves are a night elf sub race IMO. They are connected and it would make the most sense to have them be alliance...high elves and the horde don't mix.

    Give orcs brown skin
Allow dwarfs to be wild hammers with tattoos
Throw the Tauren the WOTLK ancestors( forgetting the name)
And give the night elfs high elfs or a better high born model.

Only thing that makes this tricky is the starting zones why is a wild hammer starting in Coleridge etc but at that point who cares.

Could also make the race class combos a nightmare, high elf Druid, wild hammer warlock, Brown Skin Orc warlock (although being a warlock doesn't give you green skin it just seems strange)
