    Immerseus Heroic Guide
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you'd like to motivate me to make more guides in the future, please check out www.vengeanceking.com follow me on Twitter @Zabuzan and like my Vengeance King page on Facebook.

    Introduction
    Hi all,

I created a guide for my guild as reference for Immerseus Heroic, describing our original kill strategy.

I'm a big fan of text guides in conjunction with video guides and I feel that each has their own merits when preparing for a new encounter during progression. I'd also recommend the Fatboss, Evrelia and Gabestah video guides as a great resource ahead of any progression. Links to these video guides can be found below the text guide I've created.

Hopefully this guide can be of use to other people as well.

I've also included a TL;DR summary, for those only interested in the key points.

Disclaimer: This guide is aimed at the 10-man Heroic version of the Immerseus encounter and not all of the information presented may be applicable to 25-man Heroic. This is not a definitive strategy and also assumes a basic knowledge of the normal encounter and the changes to mechanics on Heroic. Other strategies and kill orders are entirely plausible, but this is what we will be using for our first kill and I can vouch that it works for us!

For links to my other Heroic boss guides, check out the Index Thread.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Raid Composition
    Standard composition - 2 tanks, 5-6 DPS, 2-3 healers.
    Recommended composition - 2 tanks, 5 DPS, 3 healers.

Whilst this encounter is 2 healable, the number of healer adds during the Split phase increase drastically towards the end of the fight, so there isn't a benefit in doing so and the most likely outcome is that the fight will take longer.

Melee DPS are not a huge problem on this encounter, but more than 2 will probably cause space issues in the melee range of the boss in any one sector with this particular tactic.

If your DPS are struggling to keep control of the adds, then keep the 2 heal option in mind as a backup plan. However, 3 healing should be easier if handled correctly.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Overview
The major change on Heroic, aside from a fairly large increase in raid damage, is a buff that the boss gains called Swelling Corruption, causing all raid members who use a single target ability on the boss to take damage. It inflicts damage proportional to Immerseus’ current corruption level, so it is quite easy for a raid member not paying attention to rapidly kill themselves by blindly nuking the boss. To make things worse, the debuff applied (Sha Corruption) stacks and the DoT will quickly become unhealable without caution.

The number of stacks you want to risk any one DPS taking is entirely up to your healers capabilities, we chose to switch at no more than 3 stacks - this means that if you have certain abilities with double cast procs or similar and you hit 3 stacks, you may still end up at 4 or 5 stacks, but the damage is still survivable.

In addition to this, every stack gained by a raid member, coinciding with an individual single target attack, also spawns a small Congealed Sha add. These melee for a relatively low amount of damage and can be picked up by either of the tanks. However, these adds can rapidly overrun the raid if the boss is nuked blindly, meaning the risk of the Swelling Corruption mechanic is 2-fold.

Swelling Corruption has an unlimited duration and has 1 stack per 2 Corruption the boss has. Each single target ability removes 1 Stack of Swelling Corruption and spawns 1 Congealed Sha add. This means that on the pull, Immerseus has 100% HP = 100 stacks of Corruption = 50 stacks of Swelling Corruption, so must be attacked by 50 single target abilities once the buff goes up before it drops off again. After the buff drops off the boss, there is a window of opportunity to burn Immerseus risk free before it is reapplied, the timing of this usually coincides with the buff being reapplied as a Swirl ends.

Due to these Congealed Sha adds, it is preferable to keep the raid as closely grouped during the main Immerseus burn phases as possible but bearing in mind that they will need to move to allocated positions during the Split phase to kill or heal the same Blood adds encountered during Normal. This means they can be AOE'd down and gives a target for your DPS to burn whilst waiting for their stacks of the

The final notable difference to the Normal approach to this encounter is that when a Sha Puddle, Contaminated Puddle or Purified Puddle add gets through to where Immerseus is submerged during the Split phase, the damage on the raid is increased from 70k (Normal) up to 95k (Heroic) per person and the pool will also grow rapidly for every Puddle add soaked risking swallowing up other Puddles very quickly if not monitored carefully. The pool itself grows automatically over time as well and the damage it deals increases in proportion to it's size. Standing in the pool when it is larger than it's base size will apply a stacking DoT called Sha Pool to any raider and cause the pool to shrink back again.

As on Normal difficulty, there is a 10-minute hard enrage timer and no soft enrage mechanic. The damage of all Normal abilities is tuned up, meaning your healers will need to be paying attention, however the DPS requirement for this should cause no problem for a raid that managed to clear Normal Siege of Orgrimmar, providing that no-one dies too early on in the fight - the only DPS issue with the encounter is that the DPS can rapidly kill themselves if they aren't carefully monitoring their stacks of Sha Corruption.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Strategy
Phase 1 - Immerseus and Sha Adds
Each "Phase 1" is approached in exactly the same way, but gets progressively easier as the fight continues. Once the raid has mastered the 1st and 2nd iteration of "Phase 1" and can successfully complete them without losing raid members, a kill will not take many further pulls to achieve.

Below is a diagram showing my recommendation for positioning during this phase, this strategy means that there is more movement required than in other tactics I've seen, but it ensures that there is drastically reduced risk of raid damage from the void zones spawned by Sha Bolt.

On the pull, 2 healers, 1 tank and all the DPS will be spread out within the Purple sector. The tank starting on the boss will be standing in the Red sector and 1 healer will be in the Green sector. The reason for the healer standing further away from the rest of the raid, is so that they will always be within range of the active tank; this is primarily to reduce any healer range issues caused during Swirl, which always moves clockwise and hits for significantly more damage than on Normal. Having all 3 healers in the same sector as the rest of the raid is entirely viable as well, so feel free to tailor this to suit your own requirements.

The best time for Heroism and DPS cooldowns is on the pull, as everyone's cooldowns will be in sync and the first "Phase 1" is the longest and most difficult part of the fight. There is a ~10 second window after the pull before the Swelling Corruption buff is applied to Immerseus, so make use of it! This window of opportunity occurs at the start of every "Phase 1"

Every time there is a Corrosive Blast, tank swap and each raid member move round 1 sector; for example on the first Corrosive Blast, the DPS/2healer/add tank group moves round to the Red sector, the boss tank moves round to the Green sector and the lone healer moves round to the Blue sector.

The first Swelling Corruption buff is applied to Immerseus at roughly the same time as the first Corrosive Blast goes off on the tank, so ensure your raiders are ready to switch off the boss and onto Congealed Sha adds as soon as they hit ~3-4 stacks. It is useful for the active boss tank to pick up some Congealed Sha as well, as this gives them a target to keep their active mitigation going whilst waiting for the Sha Corruption DoT to drop off them. The inactive boss tank should be picking up as many of the adds as possible and keeping them off the raid, to ensure that the DPS and healers can clearly see when a Sha Bolt void pool has spawned underneath them and to avoid them whilst moving around.

Whenever DPS have dropped the Sha Corruption DoT, they should switch back on to the boss and build a few more stacks, providing that the number of adds still alive isn't out of control - this should happen fairly naturally anyway, as by the time the stacks have dropped off, most of the adds should be dead.

Rinse and repeat this, moving a sector further round each time there is a Corrosive Blast and make sure that as soon as Swelling Corruption stacks are low (5-10) or have dropped off the boss, all DPS are focusing solely on single target nuking Immerseus. At this point, the Congealed Sha adds can be left on the tank and cleared up either solely by the tank or with a little assistance from the DPS once Phase 2 begins.

It is important to go into Phase 2 with few or no Congealed Sha adds, as they hamper the tanks ability to assist with the Puddle adds in that phase as well as there sometimes being healer range issues depending on Puddle add location RNG. If you aim to push the boss into Phase 2 after the Swelling Corruption buff has dropped off and just before the next one is applied in any given Phase 1 iteration, this will work out well. During the first "Phase 1", as Heroism was used on the pull, this should occur fairly naturally and after the 1st Swelling Corruption buff has dropped of the boss, there should be sufficient time to push the boss into Phase 2 before the Swirl ends and the 2nd Swelling Corruption buff is applied. The second "Phase 1" was the one we found more challenging to time and on a couple of pulls ended up spawning a load of adds just as the boss Split, to this end we decided to use Pots on this phase when the Swelling Corruption dropped off to ensure the timing was correct; you'll obviously need to adjust here to meet the output of your own raid.

As a final note, most of our deaths during early pulls occurred either directly or indirectly due to Swirl, getting knocked back into one of the blue aoe void zones that knock you into the air can end up instagibbing people and with bad positioning all 3 healers can end up too far from the boss tank to keep them up or get them topped before Corrosive Blast. It should also be noted that Corrosive Blast occurs just after Swirl ends, so if the boss tank gets knocked back just before the end of Swirl, the boss will default onto the next highest aggro target and Corrosive Blast onto the raid, causing a wipe. If you can outrun or outrange the Swirl, do so and then quickly move back into position, being careful not to get hit by Corrosive Blast. If you can't or it's a disadvantage to do so, try to ensure you won't get knocked back into anything else and use a personal or raid wide mitigation cooldown (Devotion Aura is great for this) to reduce any risk. In the end we found that most of the time, it was easier to pop cooldowns to survive a Swirl rather than trying to outrun it, but this may vary depending on your group composition.

Phase 2 - Split: Sha Puddles & Contaminated Puddles
As in Normal difficulty, each Split causes the boss to spawn a number of Sha Puddles and Contaminated Puddles. The Sha Puddles are still killed whilst the Contaminated Puddles are healed to form Purified Puddles in exactly the same way as on Normal difficulty.

For clarification on the nature of the add spawns and the Corruption mechanic as a whole, please see the well explained summary from Icy Veins' Immerseus Normal+Heroic Strategy:
Quote Originally Posted by Icy Veins Immerseus Guide - See Reference Links for the full Normal+Heroic guide
As we mentioned before, the boss has a Corruption bar that starts at 100. At the start of each Immerseus Phase (except for the first one), the boss' Corruption will be lower, depending on how many adds have been successfully dealt with. Each add that is healed or killed, respectively, will remove 1 point of Corruption from Immerseus.

Additionally, the composition of the add set-up depends on Immerseus' Corruption level. At the start of each Split Phase, one hostile add will spawn for every 4 points of Corruption, and one friendly add will spawn for each 4 points of Corruption that has been removed. For example, when Immerseus enters the Split Phase with 76 Corruption, there will be 19 hostile adds and 6 friendly adds. The upshot of this is that, as the fight progresses, there will be more and more healing adds, and fewer and fewer hostile adds.

There appears to be a minimum number for each type of add, meaning that even the first first Split Phase contains a few friendly adds (in addition to the large number of hostile ones). Likewise, even if you enter the last Split Phase with Immerseus being extremely low on Corruption, there will still be a handful of hostile adds.
Sha Puddles are fully susceptible to stuns, slows and other forms of CC. Killing them still grants all players within 10 yards of its location a 25% increase in damage done to Sha Puddles for a short time, which also still stacks. The Contaminated Puddles still grant all players within 12 yards 25% of their mana, and a 75% increase in healing done for a short time when healed to 100% hp, which also still stacks. Contaminated Puddles move slower the more health they have. In summary, they are dealt with in exactly the same way as normal.

The only major difference here is that the pool formed when Immerseus splits now grows over time and grows very rapidly any time a Sha Puddle, Contaminated Puddle or Purified Puddle reaches it, exacerbating the problem by swallowing even more Puddles. The larger the pool, the higher the damage it deals as well.

To counter this, players must stand within the area the pool has grown into to build stacks of Sha Pool (15k DPS per stack on any raid member that soaks) to deplete the size of the pool and reduce overall raid damage.

Early in the fight, there are a much higher number of Sha Puddle adds and relatively few Contaminated Puddle adds, so it is important that the healers soak Sha Pool stacks whilst the DPS and tanks sort out Sha Puddles. As the fight progresses, the number of Contaminated Puddles increase and it becomes more important for healers to gain the buff from standing within 12 yards of an add as it gets fully healed, so the tanks and ranged DPS should soak Sha Pool stacks instead.

We found that the majority of the time, it was fairly simple to have the tanks kill 1 or 2 adds (depending on Vengeance going into Phase 2), before soaking Sha Pool stacks and did this for nearly every iteration of Phase 2, with the ranged DPS only helping out later into the encounter. Adjust this to suit your own raid's strengths and weaknesses!

As a general guide for positioning, it's pretty much an intuitive thing; as a general rule spread your healers out fairly evenly and your DPS/tanks fairly evenly as well. For reference, we chose to handle Phase 2 positioning like this as standard:

Where Triangles are healers, Squares are tanks and Circles are DPS. The DPS near to the tanks can then push towards the tanks if there is a high density of Sha Puddles there if necessary. The healers are often a little more fluid and may have to leave an area of the room without any healer at all depending on RNG with regards to Contaminated Puddle spawns, however be aware that the raid will be taking AoE damage and will need most likely need some form of healing to survive the phase.

A final point of note, is that as Immerseus Splits, the Sha Bolt void zones that spawned in Phase 1 will be pulled towards the centre of the room. The void zones still do standard damage, so if you run through a load of them to get to your Phase 2 location, you are risking a large amount of damage and in some cases where the density of void zones is very high it can even end up instagibbing you! We did find that some abilities such as using Disengage to jump over a large number of void zones, ended up one shotting people... whether or not that's a bug or is intended I'm not sure.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Summary

    Phase 1
    • Heroism and cooldowns on pull, at the start of every Phase 1 there is a small amount of time before Swelling Corruption goes up on Immerseus.
    • From the starting positions, move round one sector each time the boss has used Corrosive Blast.
    • Tank swap on Corrosive Blast
    • When the boss gains Swelling Corruption, be careful not to gain more than 3-4 stacks. Switch from single target nuking to AoEing the Congealed Sha adds until stacks drop off before moving back onto the boss. This is repeated until Swelling Corruption is about to drop off at which point the boss should be nuked whilst the tank not currently tanking Immerseus picks up and burns down remaining adds.
    • Push the boss into Phase 2 with as few Congealed Sha adds up as possible, this means trying to push him when the Swelling Corruption debuff is not active - later in the fight, on the last couple of Phase 1 iterations, barely any adds will spawn anyway so it's not as dangerous then.
    • Don't risk getting overrun by adds, if they aren't dropping quickly enough and are causing too much damage on the raid if the tank cannot pick them all up, stay on them for a while longer even if Swelling Corruption has dropped off the boss.
    • The boss tank should try and keep some adds on them to DPS when waiting for stacks to drop, this allows them to keep up active mitigation.
    • Watch out for Swirl and make a quick call on whether to outrun it or pop a cooldown and take the hit. Make sure you don't get hit by Corrosive Blast when moving back into position straight after a Swirl.
    • On the transition into Phase 2 as the boss Splits, the void zones from Sha Bolts being drawn towards the centre still do standard damage, so don't run through them all to get to your allocated location.

    Phase 2
    • The adds themselves are killed/healed and provide buffs in exactly the same way as on Normal difficulty. however the pool in the centre where the Puddle adds converge grows slowly over time and rapidly whenever it absorbs adds, causing raid damage to increase with proportion to it's size and meaning that adds get absorbed far further out from the centre than at it's normal size.
    • Many Sha Puddles / few Contaminated Puddles early in the fight, few Sha Puddles / Many Contaminated Puddles later in the fight.
    • Healers should soak Sha Pool stacks to reduce the size of the pool early in the fight, ranged DPS should soak Sha Pool stacks later in the fight and tanks can be used to soak stacks at any time.
    • Adjust positions so that if there are few relevant adds near you, you can help in another area where there are many adds.
    • Sha Puddles are susceptible to stuns, slows and other forms of CC. Contaminated Puddles move more slowly as their health increases.
    • When moving back into position for Phase 1, make sure you don't get hit by Corrosive Blast if you are running back from very far away.
    • Amended timing for pushing Immerseus into P2 after confirmation with our kill tonight

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------
    General Tips
    • Paladins can use Lay on Hands to one shot heal a Purified Add - this is ideally done early on in the fight so that it is up again towards the end when there are many healer adds, but don't do it unless there isn't a healer anywhere near or the healer is within 12 yards and is struggling to heal multiple Contaminated Puddles. Unbreakable Spirit talent reduces the cooldown of Lay on Hands to 5-minutes, allowing 2 uses during the encounter.
    • For fewer tank swaps, it is possible to take multiple Corrosive Blast hits on one tank if needed. As a Paladin tank, Ardent Defender allows you to take the 3.6million hit from a 2nd Corrosive Blast and you could even take a 3rd with a Holy Priests Guardian Spirit. This can be used to optimise tank or add damage depending on tank setup and gear if needed.
    • If you are struggling with boss damage, pick up single target DPS classes. If you are struggling to keep the adds under control, pick up cleave classes. For reference, a Prot Paladin can do insane damage on this fight by pulling many adds and getting almost constant Avengers Shield procs, which makes cleaning up Congealed Sha adds whilst the DPS nuke Immerseus very easy. Warlocks and Elemental Shamans are obviously also very strong cleave options if it's the adds you are having trouble with.
    • The damage on the raid can be pretty spiky - Healthstones are really useful here, so even if you don't have a Warlock available to your raid, if your healers are struggling and you have a Warlock alt knocking about somewhere, get the Healthstones on the go!
    • Later in the encounter, as the number of Contaminated Puddle adds increase during Phase 2, you may find it helpful for hybrid classes with healing abilities to start healing the Puddles as well. Elemental Shamans, Shadow Priests, Boomkins and Ret Paladins are all great for this.

Not 100% certain it's called Sha Corruption, waiting for verification from my guildies (or someone on MMO) - it may also be called Swelling Corruption, so you could try that?

Will need to make amendments accordingly.

Glad the guide was useful however

Also waiting for a couple of my raid team to give me the power and weak aura strings they've used for tracking things on this fight.

Swelling corruption is the bosses buff. Sha Corruption is the debuff.

Although we intended to 3 heal this and started out that way, we found this easier to 2 heal, as our dps are that bad atm that we were getting overrun in the first p1 with 3 healers.

    Just killed it

two healing it, I still cant get the debuff to work :S

2 shot this one tonight ourselves - should have been a one shot mind!!

Updated the guide, amended timing for pushing Immerseus into P2 after confirmation with our kill tonight. Should be done after the first Swelling Corruption end, before the 2nd begins after then 2nd Swirl.

How does the debuff work exactly? I was gaining stacks from A Murder of Crows ticks (i was not attacking the boss at all, only AMoC ticking and gained stacks), i was not getting stacks by Serpent Sting/Black Arrow ticks.

Our priest said he was getting stacks from holy fire dot ticks. Does the mechanic count dot effects from single target spells?

The debuff should not be applying additional stacks from DoT ticks. A single target spell (one ability usage) = 1 stack. Some procs also trigger a stack of the debuff however, Ele Shaman double cast procs for instance. We didn't our hunter for our first kill, but he was in on Immerseus this reset and was having no issues with the stacks - I'll try and find out for you.

This is not quite correct from what I've noticed. There seems to be a 1.5-2 sec or so internal cooldown on getting debuff stacks. If your ele shammy has issues with the duplicates, he could stand closer to the boss to reduce traveltime.

Our hunter said that he was not getting stacks from dots and pet attacks besides dire beast. So watch out for that.

In my experience, that's not true at all - I get 1 stack per single target ability used, so effectively per GCD - this is as a Prot Paladin. I don't see why it would be any different for a ranged DPS class either, though it could be that our Ele Shaman was actually nuking the boss more than he suspected rather than getting stacks from double casts! The dire beast issue for hunter I can confirm was also an issue with our group initially; as was pets despawning due to range issues, when they are attacking behind the boss and the hunter (or warlock) outranges Swirl on the opposite side of the boss.

@Clampy - Thanks for the weakaura - can't test it in game tonight, so could you just confirm that it is for tracking stacks of the debuff? Will add it to the guide.

What's your gcd as a prot pally? As a kitty (my char) I could be spamming mangle/shred during my cooldowns and gain about one stack every 2 casts.

If I am not mistaken elemental shaman duplicate procs (either echo or mastery or both) happens when their spells hit the boss. The further he would stand away from the boss, the longer there would be in between the original and a duplicate proc. I figured that if the time between those exceeded the internal cooldown on the debuff, then he would gain a new one.
One thing that could also have happened though, is that his chain lightning on the adds was duplicating and hitting the boss first on some of the casts. I would imagine that this gives stacks.
But yeah it's possible that it was just his own fault for getting stacks.

Sorry for the delay in response. I'm at about 52-55% haste depending on what trinkets I'm using for a fight, so my GCD is at cap.

All that said, I think it was almost definitely just him messing up and pwning himself by nuking without paying attention - it hasn't really been an issue since our first kill.

On a side note, this Immerseus Heroic Guide now up on my new site: www.vengeanceking.com

Please check it out - and if you notice any errors or have any further questions, please let me know.

More guides with cute diagrams! /whip

But honestly, thanks for doing all this. Gonna push this on my raid tonight, as it seems more organized than the other strat we had.

Edit: your website link doesn't appear to work.

What damage? does it buff the explosion when the sha puddle reach the center without being killed/healed?

in 10 man, how many corruption should be "ok" in the first p2? we barely kill 10-12, the lock portal is bugged on this fight so we have to walk a lot.
