    Spec for challenge mode gold?

Best spec for gold runs? Also preferable team combo.

  2. #2
destruction, elemental, frost mage, disc priest, monk tank/pala tank

  3. #3
    destro/sac/kjc

also should be this for 95% of dungeons/raids.

Well going by world record times

    Disc Priest
    Brewmaster
    Frost Mage
    Survival Hunter
    Elemental Shaman

However if you're just going for Golds I would say

Warrior; Anti Caster, and good AoE dmg. or Blood DK; Good survivability, and damage. Battle rez, Remorseless Winter, and Army of the Dead
Disc Priest; Atonement smart heals, dps, Spirit Shell, Barrier, Pain Sup, Voidshift.
Destruction Warlock; Amazing AoE, Fear(s), Soulstone, Soulwell, CoE, Gateway, Shadowfury
Elemental Shaman; off heals, Blood Lust, Hex, Capacitor Totem, Earth Ele. Totem, Chain Lightning spam; good single target burst with Ascendance
Frost Mage; Ring of Frost, Slows, Frost Orb, Time Warp, and good burst.

It's really mostly about how fast you move, how aware you are, and how well you know the pulls. You can run in there with two tanks and two healers and do them. Hell, some record times were done that way.

Warriors are pretty much hands down the best tanks for CM's right now. 20 sec shockwave, mobility, great damage.

Hunters's damage is incredible. While not the best on trash, they still do very well there, and they destroy bosses.

You can find a lot of High End Groups with Hunter, Frost Mage, Disc Priest, Prot Warrior, + (1 of Ele, lock, or a 2nd hunter.)

When different people give different answers remember that:
    1. Difficulty and Ideal Comps has changed over time - buffs/nerfs matter, having more sockets matters as different classes scale differently around 463 ilvl. People's perceptions (including mine) are very much colored by WHEN they've done challenge modes and which classes they saw most often when they did them.

    2. Overall CM's have gotten MUCH MUCH easier since release (sockets and access to perfect itemization) - You do not need any specific comp to get gold, you do not even need lust. I guess you could choose some truly terrible comp by taking 3 of the same lower-end dps spec, so i guess I mean any comp within reason.

    3. It's more about how you work together than specifc comps. Really. If you find yourselves having trouble with the timers, do more research, get more advice on pulls, coordinate better. Don't blame your comp, 99% it won't be the problem.

Don't forget Brewmaster Damage took a huge nerf (end of 5.3 or with 5.4 patch). It ain't what it used to be.

DK's are very good, but ultimately when we compare their spikininess to warriors + remorseless winter vs shockwave...To me Warriors are better. Damage is pretty even on aoe, and perhaps skewed warrior on single target.

At the end of the day, a tank who can abuse vengeance effectively (without dieing of course) >>> a tank who can't. It's more important than class.

Situational, but conflag is generally good for the slow. Siphon life is always solid. Soulstone pretty good in your comp.

Siphon Life; especially when you have Immolate rolling on 10+ targets
Conflag; not having to apply Immolate to Conflag is really nice
There's several viable options for a 3rd; Havoc, Fear, Soulstone, CoE,

    Talents:

    Dark Regen or Soul Leech
    Shadowfury
    Sac. Pact or Dark Bargain
Unbound Will or Burning Rush; depends on the situation
Grimoire of Sacrifice since your pet can't invis. and can accidentally pull more crap
Archimonde's Darkness or KJC; depends on the situation. Mannoroth's Fury could also be useful for the trash after Bone boss in Scholo, or the monkey pack in Brewery.

hit doesn't scale down. just reforge in your gear to 15% hit. better to get all this hit from gear rather than gems, since gems also do not scale.

Hit is 7% and miss chance is 0% for all levels

I honestly don't think specialisation matters for Golds as long as you're bloody good at what you do. I'd say it's much more important to pick the right talents. I'd always take Sacrifice, Soul Leech and Unbound Will but change between Archimonde's and KJC as well as switching Soul Link and Sac Pact depending on the dungeon.

Since the 5.4 patch I'm 99.9% sure that for warlocks in CM's its destro or bust. Run with max sockets, itemized to max mastery > haste > crit, gem for int > secondary stats. Trinkets are essence of yulon (DMC card) + any number of options (alchy, light of the cosmos, hydra, etc). Best weapon combo is venomlord's wand + garrosh offhand since that is 3x total sockets but staff from twins or staff from horridon is also solid. Engineering is really good since you get the 3 min invis + gloves for burst and pairs well with tailoring. Spec sac, shadowfury, rest is personal preference. Glyphs I would go with eternal resolve + conflag + siphon or healthstone.

We used a Blood DK, Resto Shammy, Boomkin, Windwalk monk and I ran as destro for all but Scholo I ran demo for mass aoe pulls. Received gold without much of issue except I think 1 had a tight timer.
