    7680x1600 and 4670k

I'm planning on getting three 1600p monitors for surround next month.. after using 5040x1050 for a while.

I'm also thinking of an upgrade to SLI 780 TI's but the problem is i've heard the 6GB of RAM on Titan Blacks really helps in these kind of situations.

The original plan was to get another 680, but i guess they're not gonna cut it for 7680x1600

So two 780 Ti's (1300€) OR two Titan Blacks (2000€)?
third option is to just spend 300€ on another 680. But i'm not sure 2GB of RAM will do the job.

Main question is that if i'd get titan blacks... or even dual 780 ti's, would my 4670k bottle neck the cards?

So opinions of SLI 680, SLI 780 TI, SLI Titan Black. And also if i need to upgrade my CPU.... Thanks

this is similar to my next planned upgrade,

you will need titan blacks, 2 for games to be playable, 3 for them to play well, but even with three, don't expect max graphics in top end games, 2GB of vram is not even close enough to run surround 2560x1600 screens, it's just enough to run a single 2560x1600 screen

to answer your main question, yes, your 4670K will hold back dual titans, its purely a PCIe lane limitation, for a normal surround setup with 1080 screens, a 4670k would be enough, but at the much higher resolution of 7680x1600 you need PCIe bandwidth, something the 4670k just does not have, you would want both cards to have full bandwidth, so you would need to upgrade to an X79 build

    - - - Updated - - -

also, i recommend not upgrading quite yet, X79 costs much more than z87, wait for computex to see if X99 and Haswell-E are announced, if they are it will be worth waiting because the high end platform lasts much longer than the consumer platform, im still on the same motherboard and ram since nov 2011

I would be looking at the specs of your motherboard, most sli setups get their lane reduced to 8x (you can still get motherboards that can sli in 16x speed), and more often then not 3 lane SLI will get dropped down to 4x. I wouldn't be expecting to see any 16x for running 3 graphic cards, but you would want to try and find one that can do 3 graphics cards in 8x - if you already have one then that's all good, but going down to 4x is a big drop off in performance considering how much throughput you need for that setup.

Check to make sure your PSU is sufficient also

    its a matter of platform:

1155/1150 have 32 PCIe lanes with 24 available for use, which is why you usually only see 16x/8x

2011 on the other hand has 40 PCIe lanes with 32 available for use, so you can do 16x/16x, 16x/8x/8x, 8x/8x/8x/8x

Very constructive feedback. I think i'll go with 5760x1080 for now then, and just get another 680. Still an upgrade from 3x 1680x1050 LCD

Haswell-E does sound tempting though, and i'll probably be going that route also!
will be able to sell this Z87 4670k + SLI 680 build for a reasonable amount too.

A little off topic: For the first time i have noticed 16GB RAM is becoming worth it.... 64 bit BF4 pushes 8gb.

As a side note for anyone thinking about it, don't even bother getting Titan Blacks, get regular Titans. Blacks aren't overvoltable and therefore don't OC well past 1.212v. My regular Titans game at 1.29v and 1300MHz all day long on water. (Which is probably a feasible cooling solution if someone is dropping that much on GPUs).

Plus there are tons of resources for the regular Titan on OCN.

Also - I'd be waiting for X99 and Maxwell

If you're going with 3x1080p just stick to 2 780's.
