Why do we condemn pedophiles and accept homosexuals?

Before you become morally outraged at my title please read my post.

Pedophiles like homosexuals cannot help their sexual preference, that is, they cannot help themselves. Yet the media in the West has completely demonised pedophiles as these monsters that kidnap children and lock them up in their basement to satiate their supposed perversion.


I'm not promoting pedophilia because it does hurt the child in the long run but I am talking about non-acting pedophiles that are secretly attracted to children.

Comes down to consent really... Children are too young to give consent, or even understand the situation thus are being exploited/abused.

A Gay Pedo for example isn't suddenly ok because he only has sex/abuses children of the same gender.

Children are too young/too little developed to understand the choices they are making.

Its the same reason homosexuality (or heterosexuality, or fucking a chair) are ok but doing something like having sex with a goat isn't.

No one should ever be condemned for feeling something, including sexual preferences. A pedophile cannot choose to not be attracted to children, only to not act on it. I feel for anyone who is saddled with feelings they can't act upon because it would be harmful.

To answer you question: I guess it's because when people hear the word pedophilia, their minds immediatly go to child rape, which is incorrect, but understandable.

This is something I also thought about years ago. There isn't anything wrong with it. But you can see how someone with a child feel unsafe around someone who would say "I am attracted to children" because that parent would not know if they would act on those feelings. Humans are sexual beings by nature, so it is rare for people not to act on their desires. So their is some reasoning behind the association between someone who is attracted to children and a molester.

Well, I would like to see the television station or other media that would go out and say, "pedophilia, it's okay, as long as you don't act on it". We demonised, because it is wrong in the general view.

With that being said, it would probably be a good idea to make a program or project where pedophilies could call a line or meet with a person, and express their feelings and talk about it and in general get help, because staying locked in their house and listening to how awful and disgusting they are, probably won't help.

In some sense I agree with you, pedophiles can not help their mental illnes, I think that a phedophile who never touches a child or looks for child porn deserves a medal.

The problem with phedophilia is that people who suffer from this will not easily seek help, only the ones that get caught get psychical attention.

A child cannot give consent to a sexual activity with an adult, it is both against the law and comprises informed consent.

You're right on the issue that these people are simply born with these... Sexual interests? Orientations?

But one is with two consenting LEGAL parties, the other is abuse.

I would whole heartedly support a pedophile seeking help in managing these urges, the stigma surrounding it is terrible, child abusers and pedophiles are conflated; One has the interest in children and hasn't acted, the other has and has abused an innocent child.
