    Will this run WoW?

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Pav...&skuId=9549465

How well do you think that this computer would run WoW? Anything I should worry about?

    Specs:

    Processor: AMD Phenom™ II X4 2.8GHz 2mb
    Ram: 6gb
Video card: 512mb ATI Radeon HD 4350 graphics
    Harddrive: 1 TB

You really have nothing to worry about with those comps specs in my eyes. I'm sure someone will find it at fault though.
My setup is very much CRAP compared to that, but runs wow just fine. (Yay $1200 upgrade soon)

My only quiff is that the disk 1TB disk drive is at 5200 rpm, that would amount to slower load times. 7200rpm being the norm for desktops, and anything higher, the better.
4200 to 5400 are usually the rpm for laptops considering their size, and possibly intention. So you may want to look into replacing the HD with a higher RPM if you wanting faster software loading and writing. It does help alot in my opinion.

Other than that. Good to go

My wife plays on a A64 1.8ghz single core, 1 gig of ram and a nvidia 7600gt, mix of medium and high, 1440x900res, old shadows tho.

Its a little choppy here and there in northrend and dalaran is kinda bad, but everyplace else it plays fine.

I would say that system would be more than enough to play it, perhaps not at max settings and full shadows.

WoW could probably run on a Gameboy Advance.

    Re: Will this run WoW?

WoW is bad on multi core chips.

it offloads some of the sound processing to a 2nd core and (afaik) nothing else.

so the main point if you are looking for a sweet spot is look for the fastest speed of the individual single cores you can reasonably get and for the most part ignore the number of cores because WoW won't make use use em

(this may allow you to save some cash if say you did something like buy a 3.33GHz dual core rather than a slower i5 or i7)

with that amount of mem tho (assuming your OS actually supports it) it would still run real nice even if it is just (mostly) using a single core at 2.8GHz

as far as gfx cards go bear in mind WoW is a DX9 game and will never be a DX10 or DX11 game.

the card will probably work fine but the truth is old high end DX9 cards throw WoW around like no ones buissiness whilst some newer ones (because their development are focused on DX10 and now 11) can actually have worse DX9 performance.

in the end tho WoW is far more dependant on the processor and memory than it is on the GFX card because of the nature of the games engine.

Isnt 4 gigs still the most that windows can use at once? Or did windows 7 improve that

    Re: Will this run WoW?

4gigs is the most that windows vista 32bit can run. 64bit vista and windows 7 are capeable of using more

not a big computer person but mine is a very cheap 300 dollar computer and it plays WoW fine. I assume any computer bought new these days is more than good enough to play WoW.

Bullshit, WoW works great on multicore processors. You can get even up to 50% higher fps count jumping from duo core to quad core. Just visit some benchmark sites. But one thing is for sure, the higher CPU clock you have the better game will work. I had like 20 fps increase o/c my e8200 from 2.7 Ghz to 3.65 Ghz.

PS. Dont even think of buying Cata without 4GB RAM.

having more memory doesnt make wow itself run better.
it just improves everthing else (OS, drivers, background apps etc)

4 gig is the most you can use on a 32bit Operating system (and actually its in practice it ends up being 3)

you basically need a 64bit OS to make use of sytem memory above 3 gig (as far as windows goes)

i think you can install windows 7 home premium as 32 or 64 bit

its one of those things thats worth spending a little time reading about because otherwise you get folks who fill their machines with loads of memory it can't actually make use of.

Pretty much anything runs world of warcraft, but you should do just fine if you don't look at porn.

That will play at max with 30 frames minimum, with advanced shadows turned off but it will most definitely run WoW.

Shit.. a Celeron with a 512 stick will still run WoW..

I remember running Vanilla WoW with everything on high and my PC was - Athlon XP2000, 768 MB RAM and Geforce Ti 4200. Now to run game at same details you need everything 3 times better and game hasn't changed a bit :S Fuck you Blizz.

Really, that's simply because their textures have gotten FAR better, and the population of (many) servers is now much higher. There's a hell of a lot more to load in busy areas. That said, a computer 3 times more powerful than a computer made a decade ago isn't really very much at all. WoW is made to run fairly well on just about anything, as long as you aren't trying to do the advanced shadow shaders.

    Re: Will this run WoW?

Get a better graphics. While WoW doesn't have the most amazing graphics ever, WoW responds best to graphics cards upgrades.
In general *3** is crap, and the *8** of the previous generation will often outperform it (sometimes the older *8** will beat out the newer *6** too!). *3**'s are intended as a lower power/heat/noise graphics cards used for quiet systems (eg a HTPC).

You would do yourself a real favor by finding something with either a ATI 48**/58** or a NVIDIA 98**/275/290. Nvidia recently just moved to a new numbering scheme with its latest cards. I would say a ATI 48** or a Nvidia 98** is best bang for the buck.

    * is a placeholder for any number.

I actually had a guild mate that did this during malygos 25 (when it was one of the hardest raids).
The vent sounded something like this.

    Girl voice: harder harder...
Guy1:Who the fuck is watching porn!?
    Guy2: No idea
    Silence in like 10 sec
Guy1: Oops sorry... It was me >.<
