Live action WoW will be as awful as live action Super Mario Bros.

Except for the bit where with Super Mario Bros. the directors just did whatever the hell they wanted because they weren't actually given a story, while this is a fairly well-documented part of existing Warcraft lore.

Their CGI stuff looks so amazing, I don't know why they would risk it with live action. YOu're so much more limited. An actor playing an orc or tauren? That's going to look like shit.

Photo-realistic CGI films have never been successful. It would be great, but the appeal is far too niche and would be a near guaranteed flop.

Even though I appreciate Metzen as an artist, writing story or dialogue isn't his strong suit. Still gonna see it regardless, though.
I know I'll get bashed for this, but I disagree. I think Warcraft lore is astonishingly interesting and has a ton of depth and could hold it's own against Lotr.

I don't know. Just because it's never been successful, doesn't mean it never would. They would also save alot of money. I mean the warcraft III cutscenes are beautiful and I could easily watch an entire movie like that. I just dont think they could have the Archimonde crushing Dalaran scene look better than it did in that cutscene. And all of the trailers for expansions have been stellar.

Then what was this all about?

If CGI has never been succesful then that's where the risk is.

The warcfact III cutscenes wouldn't live up to the standards of today. Again risks. They wouldn't make a movie only a few diehard fans will watch. They would have to make it look much much better to appeal to a larger audience and then it wouldn't be cheap.

Save money? Those films are some of the most expensive to make, which is part of why they've all failed in the past. Even if they don't suck, they would have to do extraordinarily well at the box office to make back their budget. Blizzard could have given it a shot, but it's a huge risk and really the only gain is fans who are already playing the game are extra happy. But this is clearly designed as a marketing move for WoW so it needs to have wider appeal. It'll look fine in Live Action, CGI these days his amazing and the budget of this film is nothing to sniff at.

WoW CGI are very expensive (more expensive than any live-action movie (if to compare 1 minute of CGI movie with 1 minute of live action movie)). They wont put the money into something so expensive and moreover - so risky. Animation movies were never successful in cinema. On other hand, Lotr show us the example how the books with pretty lame dialogs and simple plot can be turned into the epic movies. I dont see, why Jones, Blizzard and Oscar-winners team cant make epic Warcraft movie, which attract general auditories to our favourite universe.

Everyone who bashing Warcraft live action movie must decide - do you want one Warcraft animation movie which flop and there will be no more Warcraft movies, or you want Warcraft live action movie which can get good critics and tons of money and will lead to the next movies (about Second War, about Arthas, about Third War, about Ancients and so on).
I prefer the second option, because i want more Warcraft lore to be filmed.

I guess that means Patton is gonna be Garona.

I think I can deal with that.

As much as I love Warcraft, and I've been playing it for 20 years, I just don't think that it is going to translate well to Live-Action.

But it's the First War. I don't see how it couldn't.

The only one I know is Daniel Cudmore. Can't say he particularly impressed me in X-men as Colossus is basically just a cameo, though I did like him in Forward Unto Dawn. I could see him as Orgrim Doomhammer maybe, a strong but more stern and serious Orc.

How much do you reckon the movie will bank?

  18. #258
Really depends how well this movie's going to be marketted. If anything, even if they don't make it in the NA sales, they'll make it back in global sales no doubt.

    Who are these Jedi guys?

Was anybody able to purchase the Empire 300th Issue special thingimabob? Perhaps scan the article that talks about Warcraft? Possibly even send the scans to my email?
