Do you know what I see? I check sites like monster.com, I look at store fronts as I travel around, and I see better jobs out there. Truck drivers, trade-skills, medical professionals, teachers....these are all jobs that pay far more than minimum wage, there in-demand, and they don't cost a fortune in "higher education" fee's. Hell my township is hiring "laborers" at $10/hour. No prior experience or skills required.

There ARE better jobs out there. Those jobs DO pay more.

So remind me again about how there are just no other options...

You can't be serious. Trade schools do cost a lot of money for higher education. I spent over a year and a half going full time to become a certified welder. The only reason I could do that was because the state was paying for it. And it wasn't cheap. And I know it takes a crap load of more schooling to be a teacher or anything in the medical field.

The prices rising every year is due to inflation. Stagnant wages means people are behind where they were years ago. Those who got their big start and made a small business when minimum wage in 1978 was effectively ~10.50 in 2013 dollars are now trying to pull that ladder up behind them.

Then if that is the American dream, it is gone from America. America has one of the lowest rates of economic mobility in the world. Even Canada, with an over $10 minimum wage, has surpassed us, and nordic countries have been ahead of us for awhile.
