If you ever want to see what the latest iOS is on old/current devices, check the wiki page for them.

Just buy a nexus 7 (2013) if you need a cheap tablet. Used portable devices often have reduced battery life and other problems that I prefer to avoid.
While the Ipad 2g might currently support the latest ios it wont for long as apple has a habit of discontinuing software support after 2-3 generations. After that point apps will start to be only available for the very latest and eventually the selection will dwindle as many developers remove the old versions when they release a new one.
Thanks. I thought that the old models ran an old OS that was still supported with security updates only an nothing else. Kind of like windows xp used to be. I'm not very experienced with apple software xD.If you ever want to see what the latest iOS is on old/current devices, check the wiki page for them.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_iOS_devices#iPad

My iPad1 is fully upgraded and up to date, and is running IOS 5.1.1; nothing after that will run. More than half the apps I've installed over the years no longer work, either due to needing IOS7, needing hardware which doesn't exist in the v1, or just refusing to work.
DO NOT bother getting an iPad v1, at the very least get a v2.
Yeah, the iPad 1 is already dropped from Apple's main support. If you're going to buy an iPad, the lowest that Apple supports is iPad 2.
Even then, iPad 2 is pretty old, in Apple years. I wouldn't doubt that they'd drop support for iPad 2 within the next 1-2 years.
the ipad2 will be end of life with the next iOS update, i've had my ipad2 since it came out, and it still works fine, battery lasts about 3-4 weeks idle, and a couple days with normal use
if you are going to get an ipad, get the very latest one, you will get the longest use out of it
