Excited for Warlords, how does the average Joe prepare?

As someone who has only PvP'd in MoP(even that has been briefly), how does one prepare? What are the must haves? I'm considering buying a Garrosh carry for heirlooms(/bye gold).

Professions aren't going to mean as much damage wise, should I pick up leatherworking on leather wearers and so-on?

How much gold would be a good baseline to enter WoD with?

Generally how are you ladies and gents preparing?

If you're not playing seriously I don't think there's anything to really prep for. Gold is always good to have, maybe the heirloom (probably won't make the biggest difference), but all in all you should have an on-rails experience.

You'll want to try and gather around ~40,000 gold for the launch of the expansion, everything is very expensive in the first few months, so it's nice to have a significant pool of gold to use. You'll also want to make sure you've already got as many of your professions at 600 as possible, as you're not running back and forth between New & Old content to level up your skills.

Have plenty of Bag Space, clear out you Bank of the junk you've collected and make sure you've got Food, Flasks, Potions & Lotions for the first few days as it'll help you in the new Dungeons & Raids.

Other then that, the best thing to do is relax. If you're not going for World First X, then don't rush anything. Enjoy the excitement and rush of it all, it only comes once every ~2 years.

Edit; Yes - The Heirlooms will be really nice. They don't have a +Experience buff on them, but their Damage & Stats on them will greatly help with the leveling experience.

Personally, i try to finish of certain things before WoD. Most of it being MoP stuff, examples; MoP Archaeology, MoP reps, MoP mountruns, pets whatever.

Also more importantly is CMs, Brawler and Legendary cloaks these will be come unobtainable.

You can basically ignore half the people above.

@NSRM: They have said nothing about removing Brawler's Guild or the legend cloak. Where did you get that idea?

@Voodoo: They're introducing catchup mechanics for all professions once WoD comes out, so there doesn't need to be any major rush to level them.

And the Heirloom weapons are becoming a 100% drop on Garrosh kill come 6.0, so I would wait until then to do them. You'll prob have 6-8 weeks to get them after that so there's no reason not to wait.

Really, the only thing I'd do is challenge modes. Or go see if you can get the Korkron War Wolf, since that's also being removed in 6.0. You'd have to get carried through Normal tho

You don't really need to prepare TBH, you could make some gold if you want but it's not like it's required.

Those Heirloom weapons have no XP bonus, all they'll do is help you kill mobs quicker as you level then poof benefit gone.

IMO just finish any MoP content you still want to see, level up any alts you want to play, find a guild you're happy with, etc.

CM - yes absolutely, now is the time.

Brawler's Guild - no word on this, doubt it'd be removed.

Legendary cloaks - almost certainly won't be removed.

The Garrosh heirlooms are nothing fancy, so don't try too hard to strive for them, and even so, you're still able to get them from a Flexible Garrosh kill which is a piece of cake.

To prepare, I simply sell all my current world mats on AH. Since Glyphs will be changing as usual, I'd get some Glyphs ready to be sold once expansion hits too.
Check out my game, Craftsmith, on the Google Play Store!

Going to reroll a bunch of scribes again, depending if the new Darkmoon card model stays or not

Whether or not there's a new SoH will matter too

Usually anything to do with Inscription is a good way to earn gold early on in the expansion, but they tend to decline as the expansion progresses. This could also be said about the crafting professions such as Blacksmithing, Leatherworking and Tailoring.

Enchanting and Jewelcrafting bring in a steady flow for almost all of the expansions cycle. Herbalism, Mining and Skinning are also quite profitable at the start, while eventually averaging out to a certain margin (unless you have massive amounts of bots on your server). Skinning I would say tends to return more profit than the latter two, but that could also be said because it can take longer to acquire the materials.

Alchemy is profitable if you specialize in transmutation. It's more profitable at the start of the expansion but is still worth it for the entirety of it. Your return just comes in clumps, and may seem like you're earning less because it's more sporadic.

Engineering is similar to Alchemy as well, but I've found it to be the specialization with the least amount of profit unless you're constantly buying materials to craft mounts, and then selling them in excess. This profession requires the most investment.

Simplest answer? Wait for the Garrosh heirloom boost then run that, and save up as
much gold as possible. That's all I can think of for truly average Joes. :P

Pet battles, brawler's guild, etc. work too.

other than getting 9/9 gold i didn't/won't prepare at all. maybe just sell all my current expansion crafting materials and clear my bank of random crap.
This is a signature, there are many like it, but this one is mine.

I won't prepare at all, don't see the point. Didn't prepare specially for the past expansions, not going to start now. Probably start WoD with about 1.5k gold, as that's how much I usually have.

Actually, I would say clearing bags out is a good thing to do, but I normally don't bother.

im not doing anything as i grow bored of farming/dailies long time ago , basically im loging in for raids hoping for hc gary mount, but if you still didnt do challenge modes and want the set , now its the time to do them, since they will be replaced with different sets in warlords.

Hierlooms only matter if you want to race to the end-game, professions is what you want.

I'll try to keep my ~60k until WoD drops, as that'll be enough for me to get to 675 profession on my main, and get a Darkmoon trinket (Since they'll be stupidly OP as normal).

Edit: This is coming from someone who's planning on raiding as soon as they open up. If I didn't, I wouldn't bother with the DMC, and I'd probably level a gatherer first to get the mats I need to level my other professions.

WoD is quite far and away.
This is an opinion not something I just made up.

No, do not purchase a Garrosh carry. It's unnecessary and the gear would be replaced immediately anyway. Are you talking about the heirloom item? That isn't guaranteed to drop at all, and then you'd be stuck without any gold and nothing to show for it.

    Think of it this way:

While you were leveling your first toon, did you prepare for BC before you left vanilla content? No.

Did you prepare for Wrath before you left BC content? No. You just jumped right in to do the quests.

Did you prepare for Cata? Nope.

What about WOD? I'd be willing to bet you didn't.

Blizzard is good at making the content in such a way that someone who hasn't done any raiding from the previous expansion would be able to jump right in with quest greens. And the leap won't even be that far this time because they've stated they're going to make the ilvl difference closer together.

As for gold, you'd be just fine with a few thousand. It isn't like you're going to be spending it on anything until max level anyway other than repairs and maybe food/water. By that time, you'll have acquired more from quests and selling greens.

For your professions, that's a personal choice. All professions benefit every class in some way, some more than others. My Hunter is a Leatherworker, my Druid is an Alchemist, my Shaman is an Engineer... and so on. You could have a Leatherworker on a Warrior because of the leg enchants you'd get, but it isn't optimal just because you wouldn't be able to use the gear you're crafting. For that reason, I would recommend sticking with a profession that crafts the gear you'd use, or choose one of the professions that can be used by every class, like Jewelcrafting, Engineering, Enchanting, or Inscription. Some people will take into consideration which ones are the easiest to make gold with, too. It's largely a personal choice.

1500? I feel physically ill when my gold drops below 150k. How do you live like that?
