paying for a legendary in gold

I was wondering if it is even possible to buy a legendary from the trading post. I mean I've seen them on there, but some of those prices are crazy compared to other items. if one where to buy a legendary for gold, and to get those gold in legitemate ways. how much would one have to spend on diamonds and then convert it to gold.

so what does a legendary etc twilight actually cost in euroes.

    1g = 0.18$
=> sell price of twilight is 584.1$/€
=> buy price of twilight is 504$/€
In most cases, I understand the other side's viewpoint and how they came to it, but cannot tolerate their stubbornness to not see mine (the right one).

The gold/gem exchange ratio varies a little bit based on the market, but atm I think the price when you convert it is 0.18 USD for 1 gold. The cheapest legendary are 2000+ gold which means 360+ USD, while for the fanciest big sword (which is actually a combination of 2 legendaries) you can often see in the "Post your character screenshot" thread you will need to spend more the 700 USD.

Needless to say, I don't have any legendaries myself

Did some math a while ago. Can't quite remember what I ended up as, but it was somewhere near the 540 euro.

But if you want some advice, put the legendary out of your mind and just play the game. Hold onto all the materials you find and save your gold for things you absolutely need until you saved enough to buy a precursor (which I still think is the best way despite some people having sickening luck). You don't need a legendary and there is only so much you can do with your gold and materials.

for what it's worth I spend 4 months playing, and actively grinding materials in the final month to earn my Twilight.

I agree about just playing the game and eventually you'll have the mats and gold to get one yourself (biggest cost is the precursor). I actually started trying for getting two legendaries (Incinerator and Predator) the day of the announcement they were account bound and the skins can be used on any character (March 26th). A couple of days ago I finished getting the mats to make both of them except for the dungeon tokens and I'll start that this week.
I've played about 250 hours from that date in the game (mainly from the world boss train, guild missions and WvW). Getting a legendary isn't that tough after all. Just need to play the game and sell anything you don't need for the legendary. Gold is so easy to come by in GW2, it isn't funny.

Legendaries run ~1000g more on the trading post than the actual cost of mats to create them. What you are really buying is the player's time to get the non-gold items like karma, badges of honor, dungeon tokens and skill points. Then of course there's the TP fees which can be ~500g of that.

Most buy orders however are ~300g over the cost of mats.

It took me about 6 months of non-focused time to create mine. I just played whatever I wanted and let the items stack up.

I'm only level 46. And with what you said I kinda wanna make my own. would it be a good idea to just start getting the world completion done right away while I level. and then just save everything? Also how do I go about getting my hands on a dusk blade?

I leveled via map completion, and it really helped, and save all your Karma, period. Getting a precursor is pretty much farming gold or blind luck, I fished mine out of the mystic toilet, but its not really reliable. I spent about 6 non consecutive months on my Sunrise.

Map completion is a great place to start, you're going to need the Gift of Exploration and getting all the waypoints lets you move around the maps quickly for world events. Plus completing the higher level zones gives you 2 exotics each and they often have the pricey Superior Runes in them like Strength, Divinity and Travelers.

Definitely make it a point as your leveling to grab all the WPs in a zone. I wish I had on my Guardian (like I did on my Warrior). It's a pain the ass to go back and do it now since she's at 80. In fact, when you hit the appropriate level, just spend the time running around zones picking them up.

If you get impatient (as I did), I spent 5g leveling cooking, which took me from 70 to 80 in about 20 minutes.

I asume I should save all gear chests I get till I get to level 80.

Not sure what you mean by gear chests...if you're talking about the shaky pop up chests over your mini map, you should open them as you get them since it can only queue so many. If you're talking about Champion bags I think the loot is determined by the level of character that earned them. Not sure.

champion bags give gear of the level of the opener, with mats determined by bag quality I believe. So it's worth shuffling them to a max level alt, but I don't think it's worth saving them.

Legendaries ARE gold, whether you buy them completed or you craft them while buying the materials. The precursor and the t6 mats are the main culprits here, the rest is much much less of a goldsink compared to those 2.

If you want to be shocked just run the math of the recipes, gift of mastery and most other account bound stuff are a tiny if not negligible part of the cost. Be prepared to whip out that credit card and get it in 5 minutes or grind hundreds of hours, choice is yours.

I think he was refering to buying gems.

I assume there was a link to a gold site that was removed, hence the *snip* in there.

Semi-rant: I've never really had an issue with the way legendaries were obtained until the wardrobe patch where precusor prices skyrocketed. Before that, if grinding the gold to buy a precusor (or even a legendary) was reasonable time sink. I forgot the math but the average precusor was 2-3 months of running daily dungeons for their rewards. By the time you finished you'd pretty much have everything thing you needed for finish the legendary. Now the prices are insane, I rather just build an ascended weapon and finding a nice skin to put on them, even if that means building the same one multiple times for different stats (making a zerker and pvt sword).

For me it's the karma, the only way of getting decent amounts of karma is in WvW and I detest that hellhole of wannabe PvPers.

Although EotM is very good for karma, speed running Fractals is probably the best way to get it.

Tequatl is nice too, like 20k per event.

With a booster on it really works to do it daily. Sadly the Queensdale champion train is no longer there, because that was a nice extra if you had too much time on your hands.

Edit; lol Karizee beat me to it :'D
