Blizzard Really needs to rehire Matt Uelman , Orchestra/trumpets is getting old.

What is gods name is going on with the wow music since Vanilla/BC/wrath. IT seems that all blizzard ever does now is this over the top orchestra bullshit. So here I am in shadowmoon valley and its just Trumpets etc etc and im thinking.... "wtf happened to ambient music that doesnt try to distract you but tries to immerse you in the world instead".

Just compare these tracks from hellfire/zangermarsh and the tone they set for the zone. You are not distracted by the music and it only adds to set the tone for the world.

    Notice anything? Guitar rifts etc.

    And now zangarmarsh

These tracks do nothing to distract you from the environment but rather make you invested in it.

I really dont know why they have switched to obnoxious trumpets when thats all we endured during mists of pandaria.

I really miss the subtle ambiance.

Please bring back Matt Uelman. Russel Browder just isn't cutting it.

I'm so tiredof this "triumph everywhere!" music. We need a little more calm music, Jaina's homeland is a great examle

Yeah this is a case where less is more. Matt Uelmen was just awesome. He made the legendary Diablo 2 soundtrack as well. I'd love if they got him back. I don't know why Blizzard doesn't seem to care much about keeping their original sound artists/voice artists. Its got me thinking that maybe the reason that most tier armor is bland lately is because the old artists no longer work at Blizzard either. I mean of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but compare the tier sets of MoP to the first few expac sets. There's a lack of themes and what not for the most part.

totally agree op,those old zones are among the most atmospheric in the whole game mainly due to the ambient music, more of this style would be great.it is without doubt one of the reasons wow has lost its charm.

I 1000% agree with the op! they were part of the zone now are just a random soundtrack, hellfire peninsula for example is perfect, also vanilla ones, teldrassil music is awsome. even Storm Peaks and many others! beautiful! .u know what u should post it in the battle.net wow forum!

Matt Uelmen doesn't work for Blizzard any more because it's not an option for him to work in-house, which is how Blizzard operates.

On topic: "ambient music" is just a fancy term for "boring ass synth pad track someone did in 30 minutes".

    not in WoW it isnt.

I noticed a change in the soundtrack when Cata released. It didn't feel like Warcraft to me.
I never played with my sound/music off from Classic to Wrath, but since Cata I now listen to my own music.

    Oh well.

Jade Forest completely trumps *every* other zone in the game.

I sort of agree with the OP.
Background music should never be as aggressive as it is in the eternal vale and the shrines.

It gets very annoying because the more aggressive and memorable the music, the more you can hear it repeating.

Personally: I use the addon "Soundtrack" to change zone musics I dislike, e.g.: Vale music substituted by Shattrath music.

Wouldn't go that far (Draenei zone music >>> all :P ).
But it's very lovely, I agree.

Wish they had used that for the vale instead.

I thought the music in MoP was excellent, and I'm not a fan of Asian inspired music generally speaking. I think they got the fusion down pat.

Honestly do not remember a note of that Zangarmarsh music. Not saying it's bad, just not very memorable.

That's my impression aswell. But there are some zones where they just put in too much, just like the OP said. This is the most horrid example I can think of. I really don't know what they thought when they gave their OK to this.

What we need is a good mix between the two. Dynamic music would be a nice thing to have aswell. Like, changing when you enter a cave or an encampment or something.

Heheh, yeah it's easier then finding the files within the .MPQs and replacing them.

However I did that with the login music. Now I always hear this lovely piece whenever I start WoW:

BTW: Did I mention that "Mosaic" is pretty much the most awesome OST disc Blizzard ever produced?
Too bad it was Blizzcon exclusive.

I happen to enjoy the MoP music, very much actually. There's nothing 'shit' about orchestra.

If you are going to voice your opinion, do it without putting down the opinions of others. That's just common courtesy.

Woah, this is awesome! I always loved Wotlk music the most. Grizzly Hills, Howling Fjord, Sholazar Basin, Zul'Drak, Storm Peaks and Dalaran OST/Music are still among my favourites.

But it is shit, complete shit. There's no ambiance about it, and that's the problem.

The music itself is beautiful, great composition, but simply not appropriate as ambient music that plays in the background of a game.

Put it on a CD and sell it, put it in a trailer, put it on the start screen, but don't put it in the zone I'll be spending hours/days/years in. That just makes me turn it off.

The reason you don't remember a note from the hellfire / marsh music is because it's done it's job correctly. The zone is supposed to be memorable, not the blaring music.
