It's not a question of the bait you use so much as the wrist action when you flick it. You want it to just touch it's tip into the moisture, tease it a few times before letting it plunge fully into the wetness. Yeah depends on where you're fishing and what you're fishing for.

Hell use to catch Rainbow Trout by the boat load with just canned corn in some lakes Toss a bunch of it over the side of the boat to get a bunch around. Then just let your hook with a few pieces of corn drift down. Rinse and repeat till you had your limit

Is it salt water trout or fresh water trout? Either way, I think they are highly visual hunters, so you can save money on bait and just go for a decent holographic lure.

I'd use bait that is made for use in deeper water. Tends to glide through easier while trying to find brown trout.

I tend to use 2 round balls on a lure to attract the attention of the snuke I'm trying to eat.
