Given Blizzards horde bias I expect nothing intimidating like a wolf or bear, more something like a joke. Maybe a monkey.

My immediate thought was also that he already had a pet in Genn Greymane.

A rat or roach, as they thrive in the toxic Alliance environment..

Horde bias?
Vanilla: Total Alliance biased
TBC: Strong Alliance biased
WotLK: Very strong Alliance biased
Cata: Neutral
MoP: Was supposed to be first Horde biased expansion, however, in v5.4 Alliance came in from nowhere and it ended with Extreme Alliance biased.
Please elaborate on the horde bias...
Fact (because I say so): TBC > Cata > Legion > ShaLa > MoP > DF > BfA > WoD = WotLK
My pet collection --> http://www.warcraftpets.com/collection/FuxieDK/
An old, gray wolf.
Varian is blessed by Goldrinn, the wolf ancient, and his gladiator name was Lo'Gosh. No animal represents him as well as a wolf does.
A lion, the symbol of the Alliance !!!
Of course he has a pet...
Crithto, the Pug of Doom!
Shath'mag vwyq shu et'agthu, Shath'mag sshk ye! Krz'ek fhn'z agash zz maqdahl or'kaaxth'ma amqa!
The Black Empire once ruled this pitiful world, and it will do so again! Your pitiful kind will know only despair and sorrow for a hundred thousand millennia to come!
Avatar drawn by Sir Meo
IMO his pet would be a Wolf and his mount a Gryphon (the Gryphon represents the alliance and the wolf represents Logosh)
A kangaroo he would wrestle.

Vanilla: Minor (Arguably more) Alliance Bias. Alliance had better stories later on but on the whole not too much of a bias compared to the rest.
TBC: Heavily Bias towards Horde. You had an entire event dedicated to the Great Thrall and Blood Elves got so much more spotlight than the Draenei, despite the Draenei living on Outland for years. Illidan had never been part of the Alliance, a raid dedicated to Kael and Sunwell ended with redemption for the Blood Elves.
WotLK: Tirion was already neutral and cemented himself as neutral along with Dalaran. Bolvar becoming the new Lich King is about as bias as it gets but even then he was turned neutral. A common theme for Alliance heroes.
Cata: Strong Horde bias. 80-85 was fair enough but the leveling experience was just so heavily bias towards Horde it was sickening.
MoP: Horde Bias entirely. If you really think the ending from SoO suddenly shifts the scales towards Alliance bias then I'll have what you're smoking. The entire cinematic was a fucking joke, largely because NOTHING will ever be done about it. The Horde will always exist and always be equal to the Alliance.
Best of all? Your faction is meant to be down on it's knees as of WoD. Just kidding! Turns out the Orcs who were loyal to Garrosh were the minority and the Horde took relatively minor losses, despite doing retarded shit like throwing troops at IJ over and over. Somehow the rebels can suddenly field a force equal to the Alliance and contest them on Draenor. That gameplay logic.
