I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get more, part through garrison like normal, part through gathering.

What other people can gather through their garrison isn't going to match someone going out and intentionally herbing or mining. The disparity will likely be similar to being a gatherer vs growing things on your farm now.

But mainly the "use" for having gathering materials is that they cost nothing to level and create materials that are, at worst, useful to your alts and at best, money makers. If you already have one of every crafting, there's no reason to have more now that the combat perks are gone.

I'm still unsure of my professions... Whether to keep them, or switch them.

With Eng Weapons and Helms beings replaceable very quickly, I don't see a large need to keep Engineering anymore.

With how Flasks are changing, and how widely available they're going to be, they're gold per unit is going to be lower, and the Damage gain is going to be about the same, depending on the class that scales with it.

For purely gold per hour, I'm leaning Mining / Herbing though...

For playstyle / situational / economy / increases to character performance, I'd like to know more information on the overhaul on JC.

Played with Leatherworking and Tailoring on the Beta, and I'm not too fond of them, and their wide-variety of materials. (Tailoring needing Herb and Skinning materials, the hell?)

I'm all for making professions less simple, and require more thought into what to make, but having professions needing 2-4 other professions to do anything extensive with is a tad annoying.

Another side of me, wants to have professions that make lore-sense to my class. I know many of you are going to get butthurt over this, but I for one like for my characters to make sense.... Because a Gnome Warrior with Enchanting Tailing just seems beyond silly. Or a Priest with Blacksmithing and Mining...
As for the class choice, I've managed to narrow that choice down to Hunter, Rogue, Enhancement Shaman...
Simmons: There's no "I" in "team".
Griff: There's no "U" in "team" either. so if "U" and "I" aren't in the team, who gives a f_ _ k about the team?

Blank and blank, because blank and blank I blank because blank.

Because they don't actually matter anymore.

How much ore, herbs, cloth and leather do the various buildings produce in 24 hours when they are maxxed out? I'm not sure how gathering is going to find a market other than vendoring the mats. What you can actually craft in a day has a hard limit. A limit of two dailies per day, or if you work it right, every three or six days.

Blacksmithing dailies Truesteel Ingot and Truesteel Ingot need a grand total of 40 true iron ore and 20 blackrock ore. And that's it. When you have enough truesteel ingots you'll want some more ore, maximum 50 ore for leveling greaves, sorcerous elements and savage blood. The ore itself doesn't have much demand at all.

The two Alchemy dailies need 40 frostweed and 20 ore. Enchanting has work to do still. Engineering only needs 40 ore. Inscription uses up 40 or 80 cerulean pigment but the glyphs themselves don't use war paints, so this may good for herbalism for a little while at least. The other profession's dailies also use small amounts of mats and any excess should be enough for the final product with the Trading Post helping with any shortfall.

This could all be a "beta is beta" thing with garrison mats and the Trade Post being nerfed 50-80% when WoD hits. As it stands now it's better to level alts high enough to establish their mine, herb garden and barn, rather than waste time wandering the world gathering. Time, as it always does, will tell.

Sitting on the fence now... waiting to see the complete picture with Garrisons. Some professions could be handy via the Garrison only, others might be a complete waste of a building plot by itself.

When it comes to gold, we all know Mining/Herbalism will likely be the best way to make bank in the first month, but I've never been one to gather grind for hours when there's new content... it's something I do between content patches on alts.

If I go with my Monk i'll likely keep LW but ditch Eng. While professions may not make as much gold anyone (although they might), they can indirectly make gold by saving it... being self sufficient.

The professions I'm most interested in how they function as a Garrison building only are JC, Alch, Ench + Tailor. I wouldn't use all 3 plots on them, but certainly could rotate them now and again if I can get a decent benefit from them.

Jewelcrafting is really gutted on current build. Everything is tied to Taladite Crystal cooldown. Everything. Even uncommon gems.
The gold making power of jewelcrafting came from sheer amount of gems you were able to churn out after purchasing enough ore and golden lotus.
Now there's hard limit on the amount of gems you'll be able to make. Blizzard really wants me to only supply myself only, without selling them to other players.

Roll gatherers, guys, I will need your herbs and ores. Everyone, roll gatherers. It's good money. Yeah.

On a serious note, rolling gatherers comes with (a) a big unknown - how many other gatherers will try to "make it big" on your realm and for how long they'd be willing to farm compared to you - and (b) a time bomb - how long can you keep "making it big" until the initial crazy demand and scarce supply come into balance. It's a fun way to make some money, but it might totally flop out and it has no longevity.

It's sad that they have completely decimated professions.

I'll probably take LW for the new mount, and possibly Herbalism because I enjoy the RNG in finding Golden Lotus-type herbs.

Demand will as expected for any expansion launch, huge in the beginning and quickly dropping over first 2 months. Crafting professions will hold hte rare materials (like sorcerous) at moderately high prices for the first 5-6 months most likely.

Taking crafting professions lets you capitalize on people who want their gear upgraded to 665 when the raids open (which is currently impossible using a single char by my reckoning?). The upgrade items are going to sell for a fortune if people split between the 650 and 665 versions well.

Engineering is the only profession I'm definitely keeping. I may keep mining or switch it out. I haven't been paying close attention to the prof changes.

I'm sticking with Blacksmithing and Jewelcrafting. I've worked too hard to get as many designs/cuts as possible and I'm not throwing away either profession because of that.

Mining and Engineering, the same ones I have now.

    Why?

Rerolling is too much of a hassle.

I'm going to be switching from Skinning to Engineering along with my Leatherworking. I've wanted Engineering for ages and I'll finally make the switch, since it seems the Garrison will also help me in acquiring leather after I drop Skinning.

Going Blacksmithing/Inscription for WoD to craft myself the weapons and trinkets for raiding, then drop it for whatever is coming out to be most profitable.

That's a different question than the thread title.

I will have two gathering professions for gold and mats for transmog items I want made. I am no longer interested in investing time in crafting things.
