Suggestions for a new build are welcome

    Hey there!

I'm trying to come up with some advice for a friend of mine about a new build he's considering. The main problem I keep running into when trying to compare components is that I can't seem to judge the difference between similar parts properly, and I also don't really know what parts go well together and what parts won't.

For example, the difference between an i5-4670k and an i5-4690k. They're both priced fairly similar (€200 vs €210) so I'm wondering if there's a particular reason/purpose for each to buy. What I'm asking of you geniouses out there is if you can provide me with an example build (or two) I can use to help my friend decide.

The PC is mainly going to be used for playing WoD, but in the future may also be used for design/rendering purposes. Either way, an i5-based system will suffice, so it's either going to be the 4670k or the 4690k. Graphics cards which are being considered are the GTX's 770, 780 and 970. Everything else needs to meet 2 requirements: as cheap as possibly and still as future-proof as possible. An OS, screen, speakers, keyboard and mouse are not needed.

Parts need to be available to the Netherlands or Norway.

    Thanks in advance.

    -Edit-

The budget is flexible, but there has to be a very good reason for spending €1000+.

both i5 4670k and 4690k are haswell chips (gen) 4690k is the latest, 100Mhz clocked higher and since similar price you got for the latter (is better overclocker too). Also no reason to get a 780 with 970's out. Also cheap and future proof if there is such a thing don't go together. I want a cheap ferrari, can't happen

All in all, you didn't mention the most important thing, the budget

I've come up with builds as cheap as €800 and as expensive as €1400. I just don't know if, for example, the case I picked will have enough space so I may have made (several) obvious error(s).

Also, by 'cheap as possible' I meant parts that don't have to look awesome or be the best of the best, just do the job fine. So in short, a system without anything you don't absolutely need (immediately), either tailored towards a 770 or 970. Chances are this build won't be overclocked at all, but it's nice to still be able to at some point (and worry about additional cooling then).

I see you edited a budget:

Have a look at this link, i just made a build for someone else an hour ago. Just swap the i7 for an i5 4690k and the build should be around 1100Euro. That shop is on 10countries including netherlands, so if you swap the country the prices should be similar. As i always say, look at local shops if you can find better prices.

That's a nice build going in the right direction. Do you have any (cheaper) alternatives for the case, mobo and hdd (a 500GB one would suffice)?

-You can get a Corsair 200R case, that is usually cheaper.
-Mobo you can get a gigabyte Z97X-sli saves like 20euro or something there, you loose mostly better overclocking capabilities (but you might not care as you said).
-Hdd, well you either need it or not. If you only play 2-3games and nothing else then you may need no hdd at all. You don't buy 500gb cause its like 10euros cheaper for half the storage.

You raise some good points here which I can't answer but sure will forward. Thanks so far

a 500gb is only a few euros cheaper than a 1tb hdd so better stick to 1tb, for mobo if u are not interested in sli the pro4 is a good one http://www.alternate.fr/ASRock/Z97-P...oduct/1139179? , about the case i dont really like windowed ones without lateral coolers so i picked this one on that web cause u want a cheaper one http://www.alternate.fr/Aerocool/X-W...roduct/824782?, personally i advice to spend more on a good case cause u will stick with it for years of future pcs if u buy a good one and u care of it well, so i recommend to pick the thermaltake overseer rx-1 if u can find it in your country.

pd: sorry for my bad english obviously is not my native language xD.
pd2: also on hdd note, seagate is usually a lot cheaper than wd on most parts of europe

    - gigabyte Z97X-sli is not 10euro more expensive cause of sli.... Its a better board overall. Has more usb3 ports, better audio, double 4pwm fan controlling etc

    - I won't go into the cheap case, but reckoning an expensive case when he/she asking to save from it ain't helping. Also the overseer is above 120euro and for that money there are cases far superior in any way.

    - Why would you buy seagates, they have the highest failure rates. Best are hitachi's but they are better at 2-3tb sizes, so in the standard 1tb WD are the ones to go for.

seems more like a cover up to me, most seagate hdd's come with 1 year warranty and some expensive ones with 3. Wd ones tho come with at least and going to 5. If you have or believe you have reliable product why give most of your drives 1y warranty?
