is there a help me not suck thread on mmo?
I feel like I need one after my first night raiding.
Someone mentioned that a hotfix was made to ret pallys in the past few hours, I haven't noticed a difference, can anyone confirm or dismiss this?
You talking about these?
Eternal Flame's initial healing has been increased by 25% for Protection and Retribution Paladins.
Flash of Light's healing has been reduced by 20% for Protection and Retribution Paladins.
Word of Glory's healing has been increased by 25% for Protection and Retribution Paladins.
Hand of Freedom modified by Glyph of Hand of Freedom should now correctly reduce the remaining duration of all loss of control effects when used on other players.
Seal of Insight's healing effect should now be able to Multistrike or Critically Strike.
Those are all from dec 4th&5th. Nothing else has been touched since then, so far.
i too heard that we were getting a nerf, from a guildie. can anyone confirm? i cant find anything but the healing nerfs/buffs from a few days ago.
Question on trinket usage:
I have This as one of my trinkets. On an average fight, should I delay the trinket to use with Wings or should I use the versatility on CD?
My initial reaction was to use whatever would fill the most usages, but I didnt notice a significant change in dps over the course of the fight.
Why do we not use HotR at 4 targets?Doing simple math my HotR does more damage(including mastery on both ends) at 3+ targets. Though at 3 targets its barely an increase, at 4 it is somewhat noticeable.
CS 7,017(Base value)+2639.8(Hand of light mastery)=9656.8
Hotr 2456(Base)+923.9(Hand of light)=3379.9(1 target) x 4=13519.6(4 targets)
37.62% Mastery
Unless im missing something else that crusader strike applies that HotR doesnt. Or my math is just stupid or off because the tooltips on wow already compensate for mastery.
Your math is incorrect, but i show it as an increase at 4 targets too if all have boss armor level mitigation (this is using my specific tooltip values because I'm lazy this morning, so if they are incorrect so is are my values below):
CS: 7706 (physical) * 0.7 = 5394
HotR: 2697 (physical, target) * 0.7 + 3 * 1541 (holy, adds) = 6510
Edit: I didn't include mastery since it is a constant
Edit 2: if HotR procs a multistrike it makes every target hit with the initial take a multistrike too? For some reason I thought it would be independent rolls for each target? Is this true for DS also?
Hello, I have three questions.
What is the stats priority for the ret as of today? It was Haste>Mastery until Nov 24th, but then on Icy-Veins they changed to Mastery>Multistrike when the Nov 25th patch came out. Are the icy-veins stats right today?
Also, regarding the weapon enchant I've found no information in the main post. I've been said that the Shattered hand (bleeding) is the best now, but I thought the Bleeding hollow (mastery boost) was the ideal.
And last but not least, the lvl75 talent. I've seen good paladins with Divine purpose, but on the guides say it's the worst for unitarget dps.
Thanks a lot!
I can at least answer the question about the talent. DP is very lottery-esq. It can either win you out big, or leave you out to dry. SW gives consistent damage, HA gives predictable burst, but DP can either do nothing or everything for you. My personal record is 17 DP or EDS procs in a row, but theres plenty of times it won't proc for 6-8 FV's in a row.
It gains value on aoe fights because its potential reward is much higher on them compared to the guaranteed benefit of the other talents
As far as stat weights go, you can't go wrong with getting your own weights by simming them. Download Simulationcraft at simulationcraft.org and plug your character in. Be sure to go into the options tab, and turn on scaling, and enable all the relevant stats to Ret.
Its in the first post of this thread. Sim yourself for 100% correct results, but the priority listed on the front page will do well enough.
They're close to each other right now as far as i know, but i haven't sim'd anything or seen sim results. The bleed is cheaper.
Any combo of 75 and 100 talents is viable, although some do more damage than others (as seen on front page). Whatever talents you enjoy playing with or want to try, go for it. DP is passive, so youll have less cds to manage. It will require you to know where DP procs fall in your priority, though (also on front page).
On a fight with bonus damage phases or strict burst requirements, DP will be less optimal since you will not always get procs when you need them.

If you're mr moneybags theres no reason not to buy the 15 Crystal enchants on your first epic weapon, but if you're not then its not a big deal to put it off till they get a bit cheaper.
(Bear in mind that my personal Sim is at ~650 iLvl, your actual value may differ.)
For some happy news, I just got the Go´ragh two hander from the last boss in highmaul, heroic warforged.
- More relevant to the thread, is Gar'tosh considered better than Go'ragh for ret palas overall?
