Post [BlizzCon 2014] Countdowns and chat

As with every BlizzCon, the community-ran IRC chat channel to discuss all things BlizzCon is back again for this years edition!

During BlizzCon 2009 we had over 400 people in the channel, with a record of ~1550 in the previous year. It was an extremely fun experience!

We have a mini-site where you can use a webchat client and keep an eye on the schedule (in local time, with countdowns as seen on MMO-Champion). Click!

Oh yeah. Still very alive. Being an internet functionality that's ancient and very much in the weeds has its advantages sometimes

Converting these new kids who know nothing besides Facebook and WhatsApp and can't use computers for shit into IRC users is hard, but IRC is still very alive and kicking.

I just hope it will remain so in the future.

Yea me too. I have been using IRC for almost 15 years and it is still the most superior chat client by far.

Remembering the good old times. IRC was the only kind of communications on the young internet.

    Era 1994-1999

Right, so I downloaded hexchat, looked up the closest quakenet server for me and added it to the network (jubii2.dk.quakenet.org)

When I whack the connect buttan it says: unknown host. maybe you mispelled it?

Halp! How do I connect hexchat to the blizzcon chat?

The only thing in the original post was to point it at irc.quakenet.org. It's possible that the local server you looked up no longer exists.

Channel name once you get onto a server is #blizzcon, i.e. /join #blizzcon

QuakeNet should be in the network list already. Press Ctrl-S and find QuakeNet. Connect to that and it should go fine.

Why does MMO-C have no livestream on Twitch for BlizzCon. With developer interview on the event floor and checkouts of the blizzard games and store and such. Would be cool idea for next year perhaps.

Blizzard has propably denied request for anything like that in order to sell more Virtual Tickets.
