Definitely a bug. I like my little guy following me around all the time.
Hopefully this gets fixed soon. After losing the one I had in WotLK when it had its "throw" use, I purchased another one for a decent sum of gold, I'd prefer for it to be around.

Can confirm, its now a random 15 second buff which makes shade noises etc, i've had it in my main bag since the pre WOTLK event and it hasn't left it even once, this is pretty damned annoying.
