Planning on Building a Gaming Computer Need some advice please.

Happy Thanksgiving all and Happy Holidays,

So I'm planning on building a Gaming PC for the very first time. This is a list that I have so far:

    Motherboard

    Asus Z97-A ($140)

    CPU

    Intel Core i5-4690K ($240)

    RAM

    Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz ($74)

    Video Card

    XFX Radeon R9 290 Black Edition 4GB ($290)

    Hard Drive

    WD Blue 1 TB ($55)

    Optical Drive

    Asus 24x DVD Burner ($22)

    Case

CM Storm Scout 2 Advanced - Gaming Mid Tower Computer Case with Carrying Handles, Black) ($100)

    Power Supply

    XFX 550 Watts ($51)

Please note that I have been playing on Mac Book Pro for years and have very little experience with the PC.

I'd double check the power supply to ensure you have enough wattage for GPU, overclocking, etc. I think Radeons are wattage hogs.

    Might try EVGA 650W Gold+ @ $59 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-po...ly-120g10650xr
    Or EVGA 500W Bronze+ @ $29 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-po...ly-100b10500kr

I was going to say that the PSU seemed a little cheap, but apparently they are just so much more expensive here. Regardless, the build seems fine, there is no obvious flaw that I can pinpoint besides maybe the lack of an SSD.

Oh shit, I completely forgot. You might want to go with a 970 instead of a 290. It has lower TDP meaning better overclocks, and it's as fast if not faster.

The XFX PSU is one of the best on the market. You can safely ignore anyone complaining about quality. at 550w, its perfectly fine for any single GPU setup.

Also, moving this to the build/upgrade subforum.

This is what I threw together for you. It's basically the same as what you have with a few minor changes.

If you are going to have a gaming PC, it's standard these days to have an SSD. Basically partition the SSD if you want it doesnt matter, but put windows on the SSD for faster boot times and maybe a game or 2 as well for better load times. Then you can have everythign else on the 1TB.
    Intel i9 9900K @ 5GHz | Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4 @ 3600MHz 2x8GB | Asus Maximus XI Z390 | Asus RTX 3080 Ti OC | Corsair HX850 Platinum | Corsair H150i Pro CPU cooler | Acer Predator 32" 2560x1440 170MHz | Samsung 970 EVO 500GB m.2 NVMe SSD | Samsung 970 EVO 1TB m.2 NVMe SSD | Corsair K70 Rapidfire Keyboard | Corsair Virtuoso XT RGB Headphones | Corsair Crystal Series 570x RGB Case | Logitech G604 | Windows 11 Professional x64
