“Snow can only live in the winter. When it nears a fire, it dies. That is its life. It may yearn for summer, but… it can only desire it. In my hand, the snow becomes water, because this is not its world….”“The boundless Heavens and Earth are the final resting place of all living things. Life is like a journey, filled with various scenery, various paths.
solo or instrumental?
instrumental
(basically that entire goddamn album)
solo
(the solo so nice it gets posted twice! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vi7cuAjArRs )

11 string acoustic guitar count? amplified. Not sure what you call the pedal he uses.
I could listen to this for hours.

I could listen to that all day.
Best guitar player. Anyone who has ever played two notes on a guitar will agree.
My favorite electric guitar player is Steve Vai and my favorite classical player is John Williams (not the film composer, who is of course brilliant as well).
2:35 for the solo.
Still one of my favourites
Can't really go wrong with Guns N Roses either though!
The entire thing is glorious, but hold onto your ass at 4:45.
Pretty generic answer I guess, but as a guitar player myself (admittedly not all that great) this remains my favorite 'guitar song'. Not the hardest song to play outside of the solo, per se, but very difficult to play it like he did.
Very good mentions above with Van Halen, Clapton, and Dire Straits. Knopfler in particular is a fairly underrated guitarist, IMO. Free Bird solo honestly doesn't impress all that much, but being 5 minutes of basically the same shit over and over in the most unnecessarily long song in the history of music might have something to do with it.
As a side note, listening to any of these songs on youtube really doesn't do their greatness justice.

Hm...I'd probably have to put some more thought in to give an answer, but The Evil That Men Do (Iron Maiden) comes to mind.
This whole song is eargasm guitarwise def one of the best songs and album ever created.

- Vanilla was legitimately bad; we just didn't know any better at the time - SirCowDog
2:20 in for this one
1:20 into this one
Both have their flaws, but both have their soul that i just love.
