I have let the moves of my Eagles set in. And the more I think about it, the more it seems Chip Kelly is getting advice from Sam Hinkie.

Seriously, this is turning into a dumpster fire. I am disappointed. If the Eagles really are going after Mariota, we are going to have far too many holes at every other position because we gave up a huge amount for Mariota. Not looking forward to next year.

Not even mad at Revis. He was a big reason the Patriots are 2014 Champs. But seriously, Patriots? Pony up. I would have rather you let McCourty walk and kept Revis, any day of the week.

Raiders sign Roy Helu to a 2 year contract worth just over $4 million.

Doubt this ends their pursuit of Murray, more a backup that gives them options in a no huddle offence. Does likely spell the end for McFadden though.
Ex-Mod. Technically retired, they just won't let me quit.

I'm calling it now.. Eagles are going to try to trade Bradford for Mariota with whoever lands him. Hear me out!

Whoever snatches Mariota does not just want a QB they NEED a QB. They need it to be a cheap but productive QB. Mariota is a gamble at this point in time and once a team grabs him, the Eagles are going to offer Bradford and a 2016 Draft pick (Which they got from the Rams) for him. Why? Because Kelly wants HIM.

The Eagles insisted in their deal with the Rams that they wanted Bradford, a 2016 pick AND a 2015 pick swap with the Rams. Why? Profit. For all the nonsense going on in the Eagles organization lately I firmly believe this deal was arranged with intention. You have two scenarios here..

1: Bradford and a 2016 pick is traded with [Team] for Mariota. The team who picked Mariota still gets a QB but ALSO a draft pick next year - that's good for them. Eagles gets Mariota... AND walks away with an upgraded 2015 pick in the draft. What's not to like?

2: Whoever gets Mariota says "No, we don't want Bradford" and the Eagles say "Fine. Keep Mariota!" they keep Bradford who is used to Kelly's scheme and tempo offense, albeit injury prone, but they stick with him and Kelly is determined to prove his scheme can make ANY QB look good.

Either way, I'm starting to feel more and more like it's actualy a sort of Bizzaro world benefit for the Eagles here. Either scenario might prove to work out for them. Downside is they lost Foles who got sent to the land of broken dreams to a likely soon-to-be moving team but hey, just another sacrifice in the name of the Kelly the Conqueror.

I can live with Revis to the Jets. Rented him for 1 year, got a Superbowl, both parties happy with the result.

    This though:

Current cornerback snapshot on Patriots' roster:

    Kyle Arrington
    Logan Ryan
    Malcolm Butler
    Alfonzo Dennard
    Dax Swanson
    Justin Green

    Urgh. Flashbacks to dark times.

I can only assume that Belichick has a cunning back up plan that will keep us competitive. Pls, Bill. :<

Nope, Saints paid a good portion of his money in signing bonuses. Hes about as much as Zach Miller pre restructure. Plus I'm pretty sure Unger was about to get cut or restructured anyway.

    Great move.

I think Glazer said that they might start looking to move away from Brees late last season. Makes sense.

Hes trying to hop his way to a position to draft Mariota IMO. Probably the first of many weird moves.

But if they are successful, Chip Kelly will look like the mastermind of the NFL.

Letting Wilfork, Revis, and Browner walk is pretty dumb.

Random tweets going on, Wilfork has been spotted near Renton. If we get Wilfork I might die.

Yeah I have no clue what they plan on doing. McCourty was playing saftey with all those terrible CB's the last few years and what did that accomplish? Does he plan to go from Browner and Revis to Butler and Arrington? I mean wtf...

Hell, while Browner isn't an amazing CB still better than the rest of that crop and he was making below market. Why cut him? I really don't see the logic in all this.

Ehh, there is still 4 good cornerbacks in this draft, and chances are only 1 maybe 2 of them will be gone by the time the Ravens pick, so getting a 2nd round prospect like the LSU and to some people the Wake Forest guy, with the last pick in the 1st, isn't a bad deal.

    - - - Updated - - -

Also Cortland Finnegan is a free agent, I'm pretty positive.
Just think, you could have him pick a fight with the opponents top receiver (and get beat up) in the playoffs, and get both ejected from the game.

Jets CB Darrelle Revis agrees to a five-year, $70 million deal. $48 million over first three years. $39 million fully guaranteed.

Welp, fully understand now why the Patriots didn't match that. That goes from getting paid like the best corner in the game, to getting paid silly money to be the best corner in the league and the face of the franchise and the Saviour of Jets Nation.

Well, I said it earlier tonight, different schemes. With Revis and Browner you can play press man coverage. With Revis gone you lose the no. 1 reason why you play press man. Why then hang on to the other press man corner you have? might as well dump his contract without it costing you anything and not force Browner into a roll and scheme that doesn't fit him.

You can bet your ass we will now play more zone coverage instead of press man. Good QB's pick that apart though, so you need a better pass rush if you play zone. Trouble is that we don't really have an excellent pass rush.

So shopping list for Belichick is most likely going to be corner and pass rush/D line.

I'm so sick of that style though. The pats (prior to 2014 and post 2007) have been awful in the secondary playing that crappy bend but don't break zone defense. I hate it. And where are these corners and pass rushers coming from?

  12. #252
Breakdown of Revis contract: $16M fully guaranteed, $17M fully guaranteed, $15M ($6M fully gtd), $11M, $11M

  13. #253
Ugh. Losing Revis sucks, and while I'm not upset at him choosing to make an insane amount of money, I do hope he enjoys his one ring. There is no particular reason to be upset with him for his supposed lack of loyalty, IMO; he's not a home-grown star like pretty much every other household name on the current Patriots roster; a mercenary is a good word to describe him, and he helped the Pats win a ring and vice versa. Unfortunately he's only going to make it harder for the Jets to get a decent offense together they desperately need with his bigass contract.

Anyways, I'm not particularly worried. BB always finds a way. No, the Pats secondary may never look that good again, and I suspect the first few games of the season will be quite rocky on the defensive side as he figures things out.

    Err....

In Bill we trust? I have no clue. I just know we will need them. Corner, possibly safety help cause Chung will have to cover again now and that might get ugly again, and defensive line/pass rush.

The upside of this all is that we have 13 million in unspent cap money to play with now and that's before restructering Mayo and possibly Amendola.

Cheery moment of the evening: Apparently the Patriots had tapped out of the Revis Race yesterday allready, and the NY Jets were bidding against themselves today, and quite possibly drove up the price without real competition. xD

Not sure how high everyone is on Easley, but you guys will get him back after being on injured reserve prior to the playoffs I think.

So the Colts appear to be the favorites in signing Andre Johnson. If they can land that and keep the key players healthy they will be a much more formidable team than last year

Also the Patriots are hosting Jabaal Sheard, he may not be a big flashy sexy pick up, but he has been solid for the Browns.
Also George Selvie could be picked up for cheap, and who knows maybe the Patriots could get him to put that talent to use (like he somewhat did for the Cowboys.)
Neither are prototype 3-4 ends, both being 260 or 270 but, neither should break the bank either.
