For the third consecutive offseason, the Indianapolis Colts are attempting to fix a defense that has lacked a backbone versus quality competition.

Indianapolis has agreed to terms with former Philadelphia pass-rusher Trent Cole and former Rams defensive tackle Kendall Langford, the team announced.

Colts general manager Ryan Grigson was with the Eagles organization when Cole was drafted in the fifth round in 2005.

Cole was cut by Philadelphia last week after sides couldn't come to an agreement on a reduced salary.

A two-time Pro Bowl selection, Cole generated 85.5 sacks and 19 forced fumbles in 10 seasons in Philly. While he hasn't topped eight sacks since 2011, the 32-year-old can still bring pressure. His versatility -- having played in both a 4-3 and 3-4 defense with the Eagles -- will boost a Colts front in need of harassing the quarterback.

Langford lost his job to Defensive Rookie of the Year Aaron Donald after starting 90 games from 2008 through the beginning of last season.

Still on the right side of age 30, Langford will kick out to defensive end in Chuck Pagano's 3-4 scheme while Cole will align as a bookend edge rusher opposite Robert Mathis.

Time will tell if the reinforcements can help keep the Patriots' ground attack under 200 yards in a pivotal game.

More of the same from the horse shoe.

Revis went for less than $16 mil a year, a minor miracle, of course he will get that in the first three years and then hold out.

Neither are prototype 3-4 ends, both being 260 or 270 but, neither should break the bank either.
Patriots run a weird hybrid scheme, they're not really a 3-4 team anymore liek they were during the first superbowl wins. They'll mix 3-4 looks with 4-3 looks and 3-3-5 and 4-2-5 looks. It's all about the match ups and personel the other team puts on the field.

That's where the final play in the Superbowl came from. We basically had our goal line defense in there, heavy set, but switched things around to match up with the fact Seattle had 3 recievers in. It's where the famous shot came from with a trainer yelling "Malcolm, go!" to get Malcolm Butler on the field for that play.

With the personnel that we have a 4-3 base is actually more likely. If I'm guessing at this season's starting line up as we have the players right now it's Chandler Jones - Easley - Sealver Siliga - Ninkovic with Jamie Collins - Mayo - Hightower behind it + whatever we are going to do with the secondary. More likely though is that we'll be in nickel package most of the time again, which means it turns into a hybrid form where we drop either a LB or a lineman for Kyle Arrington as a slot/3rd CB. Who we drop depends on if they want to rush more people, or if they want to still guard against the run or if they want to match up with other personnel the opponent brings.

Back to the people you mentioned: Sheard's a player the Patriots could use as a rusher, btu who's also not terrible in coverage. He'd be in the mix to do what free agent Akeem Ayers did for the Patriots last year, which is rotate with our DE's and linebackers usually taking over the pass rush role for one of them.

I'm not that up to date with Selvie, just know he's more of an actual DE pass rusher, and not as apt to drop into coverage as Sheard is. Definitely could use the DE help, but price is always the question.

Yeah, he's cashing in the first 2 years (16 and 17 Million guaranteed), but once the third year starts looming and he's only getting 5 million guaranteed I'm assuming he's going to be troublesome again for the Jets.

Just learned Nick Farley is a free agent. He was a good player when healthy, just didn't know he was a free agent.
I'm really hoping that AJ Hawk comes cheap. Everyone keeps saying this is a great pick up, and I don't remember hearing much against him while at Green Bay (nor do I remember hearing much for him) but if you believe in advanced metrics apparently he ins't looking to good:
@RotoPat A.J. Hawk arguably the worst player of the @PFF era. Owner of a -57.0 rating since 2007.
Hopefully he plays something better then that.

ROFL Jake Locker is now retiring after getting no interest as a free agent, this is especially hilarious to me because Jon Gruden said the Bears should sign him to replace Cutler. Good call dude

If the alternative was being QB of the Bears I'd say Locker made the right call retiring.

Saints looking at Tramon Williams, I hope this gets done, Saints have good luck with former Packers CBs and Williams is a Louisiana guy, I need something to be happy about damnit, I'm questioning Loomis for the first time.

I'm more stunned about Worilds retiring than Locker, Worilds was gonna be in demand.

Damn man. If the Colts lock up Andre Johnson, they're gonna be SCARY next year. And Johnson surely wants a consistently good quarterback to catch from.

You know what the great thing about the Colts is? The Seahawks don't play them in the regular season. Only time the Hawks have played Luck in the Pete Carrol era, we lost. Their front office is making really good decisions, and I'm just glad that doesn't directly effect me.

False. It's Jimmy and then a stew of meh guys. No one on NE is worth a damn, without Brady. That's a fact. The only anomaly was Randy Moss. I could win MVP in the NFL, if I had Randy to throw shit in the general direction of back then.

I hate the Gaytors, but I always liked Harvin's talent. Apparently, he's a fucking dickhead and complains about little headaches, misses too much time. Patriots don't go for idiots like that. I mean, you can hate on flamboyant people like Revis, Sherm, TO, Ocho etc but they all produced. Harvin, to me, is one of the handful of players that can take it to the house on ANY play. Punt returns, receiving, a little reverse action... but a pure dick head.

Seems the Dolphins are having trouble spelling "Ndamukong" since the contract has still not been fleshed out, huh? Weird how he was snatched practically immidiaitely yet they still don't have an official contract signed.

Or maybe they ran out of working pens and sent the new guy on staff to buy more but he got lost on his way to the store and now they're just waiting for him to find his way back?

Seriously, WHY is he not officially signed yet, it's bothering me since I can't rest untill Suh is officially locked away on the Dolphins team to make sure he won't get signed to a team where I'll have to worry about him too much!

If you think Gronk is only good because he has Brady you are so wrong it's laughable.

    And he's white-ish

It's okay! In Kellys' High-tempo hard-contact scheme it doesn't matter if your players gets killed, they can be replaced with mascots, cheese steak cooks and foam finger vendors without problem. Players are expendable, only the scheme matters

    It is!

Oh you mean actual football playing just needs to be here? Yeah, no, better freeze yourself to near death so you can be unfrozen in 6 months and skip all the dreary no football weeks and months. It'll work, I'm sure.

Seriously though draft first, man. DRAFT! Going to be just as awesome as free agent period, with the same feeling of "Damnit I wanted that player but he went to Evil Division Rival*" when players get picked.

I love the draft, it's when the final pieces of your team for the year are brought in and you can finally have a serious look and think about how the year will look.

    *I'm not talking about Revis**

    **Okay, maybe I am. :<

McCoy certainly feels confident about himself...

McCoy later told NFL Network that he wasn't "disrespected" by the trade, but would have appreciated a heads up from Kelly.

"I wouldn't say disrespected," he said. "It is a business. Things do happen. I was shocked like the rest of the world was shocked about it. I think the biggest part was the communication. I've been the franchise player, the best player on that team for six years and running. I thought at least If he was going to trade me -- or do whatever he want to do with me -- just let me know, as a man.

    He's good, but not great.

Patriots always have a stable of white WRs. Therefore, he'd be a good fit.

I love the draft for almost the opposite reason. I like seeing where my kids go and if I solidify my alliance with a team or almost shred it. I will definitely have an interest in whatever team drafts Duke Johnson and Denzel Perryman. Just hope not Pittsburgh or New England and i'll be happy.

Chip Kelly apparently saying he's NOT going to mortgage his future to get Mariota. So there goes that ESPN narrative. Thanks, Chip.
