With Curtis Lofton and Dan Williams (who comes in at $2million less than Pot Roast) the Raiders are continuing to sign players who aren't over 30 to smart contracts without throwing out draft picks for them.
What alternative universe have I stepped into?

Go home folks, thread's been won.

This is the universe the Raiders will eventually start being winners again. I think next year there's going to be a Jacksonville type vibe to the Raiders, where players will feel the team has turned the corner and it's a destination they don't mind going to.
Depending on what both teams do in the Draft, I think the Raiders might be a better team then Jacksonville this season. Trouble is that Jacksonville is in the AFC South, while the Raiders are in the AFC West. That competition difference might be what holds the Raiders back in the end.
When you compare what both teams have done compared to the Browns and the Titans though...
Don't think either of those teams will show much this season.
The AFC west looks to be on a general decline though, the Chiefs really aren't going anywhere fast, the Chargers failed to be more than a mid table team and the Broncos are in regression. Manning can't be there forever, and even he's not as good as he was pre Superbowl loss.
What hurts more is schedule, don't be surprised if the best team in the AFC west goes 9-7 next season.

Just checked, AFC North and NFC North. Yeah, that sucks.
For the Raiders though: Browns and Titans should be wins. Bears, Vikings, Jets should be competitive (and you play Jets and Vikes at home). Pick up a game or 2-3 in the division. Rough schedule, but should be able to improve wins from this year.
What the Raiders just absolutely need now is coaching. They need to start developing these players and keep bringing these free agents into the fold where it becomes and stays a cohesive team. It all falls apart if there's no development and growth.
Anything positive out of Oakland last year came from draft prospects*, we get a year close to last year's and I might be a little bit more optimistic on our chances.
*And Charles Woodson, but he's timeless so it's like having a talented rookie every year.

I never understood players thinking they have earned some sort of warning before trades happen just because they are good. Unless everybody else on the team gets told each time they are possibly getting shopped then theres no reason for McCoy to be told either, yea youre pretty good, so what. Being good makes you more money than everybody else, not the inside scoop on whats going on with management.

Jason Worilds retires at 27. I just hope both him and Willis managed the money they made wisely.
Philadelphia Injury Reservists here we come.
Still I like that they signed Mathews, he was the best RB available that wouldn't break the bank.

Consensus Free Agency winner last year was the Broncos. Didn't get them to the Superbowl, not even close.
Colts mostly made splashes on offense, while it wasn't the offense that let them down last year.
2013 against the Patriots: close to 240 yards rushing against, almost 170 by Blount alone. First downs rushing allowed: 13
2014 against the Patriots: close to 200 yards rushing against, almost 150 by Blount alone. First downs rushing allowed: 14
Untill they fix that ^ they'll be unable to beat any playoff team with a serious rushing attack. If it's not the Patriots it's going to be some other team.
Don't know if it was mentioned or not, but Jabaal Sheard has signed with the Patriots.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Jabaal Sheard and the Patriots have agreed to a two-year, $11 million deal with $5.5 million guaranteed.
