Random tweet from Patriots beat writer: ""For the 49ers this is like the 2000 election all over again. We wanted Gore, but got stuck with Bush." - my friend"

    49'er fans aren't happy. xD

This is so true. However, Indy paid more than the Niners wanted to. I can understand it from a business perspective, Older RB who has gotten the ball a lot in his career, when is he going to start having a drop off in production? I wanted Gore to stick around just for his phenomenal pass blocking, the guy is a goddamn animal in pass pro. If I were General Beard eeer, Andrew Luck: I would be stoked.

Surprised anyone cares about McFadden. He always seemed better in fantasy football than in helping win games.

TREMBLE IN FEAR AFC EAST, THE PATRIOTS JUST RE-SIGNED ALAN BRANCH.

McCoy to the Bills with a 40 million contract? pah. Revis to the Jets for 70 million? small time. Suh to the Dolphins for 100 million? Amateur moves. Patriots just signed 3 depth players for 2-4 million a year each.

So hilarious watching some Patriots fans react to stuff right now. Running gag right now is to ask reporters with every mention of every free agent signing, possible signing or possible draft pick, "Yes, but can they play Corner?!".

There's no doubt AFC East got more competitive, but the way reporters and some fans are allready discounting the Patriots for next season is down right hilarious. Apparently people have short memories when it comes to what happened when the Patriots were last painted as being "done" and "just not good anymore".

I'm not going to worry as long as we have Belichick and Brady. All of this talk is just fuel to their respective fires.

Long off-season so I'll just toss this out.

What if the jets (or bills) traded for Brees? He is the missing piece for each team and NO is not very good going into the season with him.
    You cared enough to post.

Bills would be scary with a good quarterback. Jets...maybe. Guess I just see them always as Mark Sanchez.

The bills might be the best in the AFC with Brees. I already rank them pretty high though. Jets could be good too. Got some good offensive weapons over there now.

    Brees to Jets or Bills?

Both teams have a MAJOR problem at QB, which he would solve instantly. Both teams are ALSO not that good on the offensive line, which, with the D-lines in the AFC East, would become something of a problem.

Assuming there's no chemistry issues (which is always a risk when getting used to a completely new O-line and recieving corps), I think with Brees both Jets and Bills become playoff teams.

AFC East plays AFC South and NFC East this year. Let's assume both teams can go 4-2 in the division, winning home games and beating the team not getting Brees on the road (Dolphins and Patriots are hard road games for anyone). Add wins against the Texans, Titans, Jaguars, Washington and Giants. That's allready a winning season. Add 2 games against their opponents they get from being in the same position in the division in 2014 (since those should be easy to defeat now, especially for the Jets who finished last).

That's allready 11 wins, with 3 possible toss ups against the Colts, Eagles and Cowboys (too lazy to see which games they play away and which at home). They obviously get playoffs should they beat the Patriots for the division but that's pretty much a guaranteed wildcard spot, regardless of what the Patriots and the rest of the AFC do.

Superbowl winning teams though? As I said, both teams have offensive line issues, biggest issue. Then there's Bills with a so so recieving core (unless they manage to get Clay signed from Miami, that would help them) and LB's after they let Kiko Alonso go, and the Jets still have issues at RB (Ivory is so so) and Linebacker and possibly safety.

They'd have a shot, Bills more so then Jets, but I think they have holes enough in their respective rosters that neither team would be a slam dunk AFC conference champ or Superbowl winner even with Brees.

EDIT: in the specific scenario of a trade though there's the real world issues of Brees contract/cap hit which neither team has room for currently unless he extends/restructres/cap magics in some way to make it work OR they let go of players in the trade that currently make them contenders in this scenario.

If they don't trade players (which would weaken them even if strengthening them by bringing in Brees) they'd have to trade draft picks. In the Jets case I think a 6th overall pick would go a long way in satisfying the Saints, but the Bills don;t have a first rounder (Sammy Watkins draft last year), so I have no clue what the Bills would do to make a trade happen. I doubt the Saints would be cool by getting the Bills 2016 pick since it's likely to be a low draft pick with Brees added to their roster.

So a Brees trade would be quite the circus act to pull off for both Bills and Jets (let alone the Saints; can you imagine the impact on the fans if the Saints trade both of their top offensive guys in a few weeks span? New Orleans would explode)

Er what? New Orleans is not going to give up Brees, it is not going to happen. Dream all you want, but I don't see it happening this season.

Even in a poor division I imagine we would have a tough go of it. We only beat two teams last year that were at least .500, and we lost two key.

If New Orleans traded brees they are 100% saying they are tanking quite a few seasons into the future to try and rebuild, when that isn't at all necessary.

Think you skipped the post where the hypothetical was introduced.

If the lions and colts changed places, the lions would be the division winner every single year

Bucs, Titans, Raiders, I don't think the Chargers would be any better off, Lions/Chiefs/Cowboys I'm not sure what kind of team they are anymore--when I look back at them I can't really figure out how they worked, Niners, Falcons/Bears if they're like they were last year, Colts maybe.

I'll just stop there because the more I think about it, the more I don't think you can just plug him into any system and get success.

Initially I had Jaguars up there, but after thinking about it they have a growing D and enough B level receivers that he could do really well there. Plus easy division (not that that helped him last season.)

EDIT: I take back Lions. Forgot about Tate. That team would be amazing.
