Panthers also cut DE Johnson, a good player with an absurd cap hit, had to know they would be moving on from him one of these days.

Thinking about Colston, would be nice if he ended up out here in SoCal, either with the Chargers or the Rams, they could use a good veteran receiver with size.

Johnson will have a good market I think. There's always a need for pass rushers, and he's definitely a few steps above the likes of Hardy and other veteran players. I'm higher on him then on say, Mario Williams. Draft class at the position isn't spectacular either, so I'm pretty sure some team will give him more than they would like.

Possibility Johnson comes back if he doesn't like what he sees on market..
Was given an offer to stay with a pay cut but he declined....

He's for sure been an amazing part of the defense, but the age/injuries are slowly turning him into a liability.. especially when we have someone like Ealy who can fill in for him no problem..

News of his cut comes after Coples had a workout on Tuesday.. could be related...

A lot of people pleading for signing of Williams...

a lot of people raging that Gettleman let CJ go... same people that are still sore about Smitty being released.. which at the time hurt, but was the best move Gettleman has made.

    The joys of roster changes

If the chatter out of the reporters at the Deflategate court today are anything to go on the Brady side of the conflict got attacked WAY more, including with really stupid stuff like that the Deflategate evidence was "compelling if not overwhelming".

It would be so fucking typical if we had Brady last year, but we would lose him this year cause the appeal got overturned by judges who have no fucking clue what the Ideal Gas Law is.

I was not prepared to feel as salty as I am today. Ugh.

DT Sealver Siliga is not tendered by the Patriots, which makes it slightly more likely that the Patriots will pick up Alan Branch's option, and more importantly that the Patriots will likely try to get Akiem Hicks signed (who's a free agent on March 9th). Hicks was surprisingly good down the stretch, and he had some years he was really good for the Saints.

I thought Hicks would probably walk in Free Agency and get a good deal somewhere, but this news means he may not go anywhere.

Least surprising thing to happen today was the Chargers cutting Donald Brown, $3.5mil savings for a 3rd/4th string RB.

Cutting Butler was interesting, his contract was structured in a very strange way so I don't really know how much money they saved there, I think only ~$3mil but they prevented a $12mil bonus from kicking in.

I was kinda wondering about that 12M, so I looked it up on Overthecap, and apparently the 12M mostly had to do with bookkeeping, and making sure that those 12M didn't end up on the cap, even if they never paid the money (which was apparently a possiblity). Strange contract indeed.

I don't really follow the Chargers and only get tidbits when you post about them, but apparently he was riding the bench in San Diego so I'm guessing Butler's not surprised by this turn of events.

Butler's contract was weird, he was steadily mediocre, which is better than most crappy LBs the Chargers have drafted, but it was a $50mil deal, so not surprising to see it up in smoke since he played his way out of the starting lineup.

Haha. It's always fun when they do those "mic'd up" segments, but funny how they never show moments like this. xD

Would love to have a game broadcast where you didn't have commentators, but just the actual on field sounds, the players, the refs, the crowdnoise as it comes down from the stands, basically anything that's not strategic talk on the sidelines and in the huddle (even if I would love that too, but obviously can't have that). Would probably make for a much more authentic feel to games.

I trust some company to get this done at some point. This could be the next big thing after Red Zone channel.

Most of the time I watch the game with virtually no sound, the sort of thing you need to do when you're a fan of an NFC team and FOX covers the NFC.

I find Buck and Aikman okay, but boring. I can handle them when they do the Patriots or really good games, but with other teams or normal games I easily get bored with them and start doing stuff on other screens with the game as background entertainment and only look over during actual game action.

Ohhh, and I figured I'd check, but Fox is broadcasting the next Superbowl, so that's going to be fun. Anything better than Phil Simms though (to his credit he wasn't completely aweful in the Superbowl this year, just regular bad).

They're all terrible, Buck is the worst.

Yeah, I suspected it was you, but wasn't sure. eschatological is a Bills fan too and he drops by at times, so I thought I'd better keep it at "someone".

He was cut with a failed physical designation though, so not sure what's up with him. He'll need to get that solved before he can think about signing with another team, but I'm sure that if/when he does some other team will probably give him a shot. The failed physical also makes me wonder if he had something going on last year that made him go from unimpressive to not producing at all. Never know with such things in football.

I can't say I "hate" any broadcaster, but I guess it's because i like knowing that I'm smarter than them. My friend and I will watch Alabama games and usually cal it to ourselves better than the guys in the booth.

The only time Chandler was halfway decent is when the Bills had Fitzpatrick. Those two actually had decent chemistry. Maybe chandler could do something with the Jets.

Bills cut CB McKelvin, their cap looks gross, probably because of the anti-Dolphins structure of Charles Clay's contract (they structured it so he'd get a $10mil roster bonus at the same time Suh had a $28mil cap hit so the deal would be impossible to match) means they've got a $13.5mil cap hit for a mediocre TE.

Also, Atlanta Falcons don't want no queer Apples.

And don't get Marvin Harrison and TO in the same room or Marvin probably gonna start shooting.

    - - - Updated - - -

And and the Saints signed kicker Josh Scobee who was so bad last year that his team went for it on 4th down in OT when a FG would've won the game.
