posted this info in the main pokemon thread as well:
for the shiny whiny's earlier in the thread, Pokemon Sword/Shield's code guarantees that any pokemon too high level for you to catch cannot be shiny.
Code for this is at .text +0xCDE560

also from sw/sh reddit:
We are getting reports there's an issue that's causing SD card corruption (of the whole card's data, not just SwSh-specific data) while playing Sword and Shield. Information is slowly becoming available, but the potential loss of data is a serious enough event that we wanted to make everyone aware of the information as it becomes available. At the time of this post, no official statement has been made acknowledging the issue by Nintendo, TPC, or any other officials. However numerous reports from players corroborate that there has been full data card corruption experienced by some users.
The reports so far indicate that:
this issue is specific to the eShop version
the issue MAY be related to low-quality/counterfeit SD cards, which seems to be the cause of a similar issue that showed up in Smash Ultimate when Piranha Plant was released
the issue MAY be related to SD cards formatted as exFAT, rather than FAT32/ntfs
the issue is LIKELY related to autosave functionality combined with some other issues. Some sources are recommending disabling autosave while playing until we have more information
If you have any additional information to share, or you have an experience that suggests one of the above assumptions is incorrect, please let us know. We will do our best to update this post as more information becomes available.
So I have spent 2hrs and 35mins playing and I'm at 45% battery.
Taking into account that I spent a bit of my battery (around 5%) updating another game first. Its safe to say on a Version 2 Switch you will get between 5 and 6 hours of play on a full charge.
Didn't expect it to be equal to if not a bit more demanding than Breath of the Wild.
Really enjoying the game tho, just finished my first Gym.

Well, here is the fun part: exFAT is also the default file system on all SDXC cards, which means cards between 32 GBs and 2TBs in size. If you buy a card from store, it comes preformatted into exFAT.
Switch doesn't actually reformat the card, it just marks it to be used only with that one Switch. If you put it into an another Switch after the "formatting", the Switch will ask to "reformat" the card and deletes the data (makes a new index for the card). If you put the card into a PC, you can read the data from it no problem and the Switch will still accept it afterwards.
My card has only ever been in my Switch. I also "formatted" the card the first time I put it in. I just checked it on my PC. It is in exFAT file system.
So this issue affects 99% of Switch users.
What opinion?
It is just facts there. exFAT is the default file system of SDXC cards. Unless you reformat them yourself into FAT32 with PC, they're gonna be exFAT when you slap them into the Switch.
Vast majority of people why buy SD cards don't bother to reformat them. Hell, they don't even know how. So most SD cards in Switches are exFAT cards.
I mean thats nice but your fear mongering isnt really needed when we dont know whats causing it and how widespread it is AND youre getting all your (wrong) info from randos on discord. As someone who has the japanese eshop version with no issues, ill stick with serebii on this one
Scorbunny, I looked at its evolved forms and it was the only one I liked.
Do keep in mind I am playing on a V2, so a V1 will be around half of what I said.

Actually yes it does and right in that link...
Anytime you put a SD card into the switch it does format it to FAT32.It's a problem with the Switch itself when dealing with SD cards of the exFAT format rather than the standard FAT32 that the Switch sets up.
If your SD card was originally formatted by your Switch you should be fine.
You claimed the game (that you have been shitting on and saying you wouldn't buy) fried your NAND and now your saying the system doesn't format SD cards.
Stop trying to fear monger because you hate the game.

The vast majority of people using a SD card on the Switch is in the format of FAT32 because the Switch automatically formats it.
If the SD card is empty the system does it without asking, If it has data on it then it asks.

Please point where I said it fried my NAND. Because I never said that.
As for the SD cards.
Here's my card. Only ever used in my Switch (and now in this laptop to check it's file system). I bought it new and put straight into my Switch when it was empty.
Its is the D:/ -drive. Look at that, it is exFAT. If what you were saying was true, it should be FAT32.
But lets go deeper! Here is a spare 16 Gb card I had, which I formatted into exFAT. The aptly named Switchtest D:/ -drive.
Lets put it into Switch.
It was empty, so after putting it in and restarting the console, it just shows up there, usable.
Putting it back into PC shows us that Switch has created the default folder structure there.
But it is still exFAT.
So Switch doesn't automatically reformat empty new cards. It just lets you use them. Only if there is data on the card it will prompt reformat, or if you do it manually on either PC or in the Switch.
So, how many people, who buy new SD card for the Switch, will actually know they should reformat it first to avoid bad Nintendo OS coding, when it just shows up there usable without any other needed operations than sticking it into the system and rebooting the device?
Plenty of people have exFAT cards in their Switches, since that it the format empty cards come in. And plenty of people could ran into this issue with Pokémon or any other software that causes the OS SD manager to flip out.
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter/
You may want to reformat is into the other build if you want to be safe.
I use Exfat. And i reformated it before i used it in switch.

Also... exfat is unlimited, while Fat32 supports blocks up to 4 gb.
I mean, don't try to wiggle your way out with the "I never said it specifically fried MY NAND" when you where fear mongering that it did that to other people(which it never did, and you overreact to seeing some discord or twitter posts mostly from people with hacked switch and pirated games lmao).
The reality is it's turning out to be a non issue, as expected and you jumped the gun to try to shit on a "game freak screw up" which isn't their fault. Unless you think Bamco and KT are equally as incompetent because they have had similar issues with people using modded switches and counterfeit cards. Not their fault if you're not using legitimate hardware.
