TEFL looks interesting. I wonder if that's 120 college hours (which is a fuck ton of time) or 120 hours of real time?

I'm assuming real hours. I know a lot of people who only take 12 college hours per semester and well, that would equate to 5 years.

I agree on that,The Nordics are beautiful(might be biased ) and Surprisingly diverse for their proximity to each others, but Sweden is just so damn huge compared to say,, the itty bitty Denmark >.<, so if you still want to hit up most of mid/southern Europe and you don't have over 2 weeks, then skipping Sweden(and therefore Finland and probably Estonia and other baltics) would be the biggest "time savers"

Yeah, I'm pretty sure my plan right now is: 2 more years of college (bachelors) then teach TEFL until I either have enough money to go back to college without having to work or until forever because I might really love it.

The plan here is complete my Bachelors on Iceland and go finish my Masters somewhere else, have yet to decide on exact location, but i've looked at USA(been talking to PennState and santabarbara something, they sound pretty positive about me ),Denmark(DTU/Esbjerg uni mostly) and Sweden

The problem with Political Science is that the entire subject shifted its focus in a completely different direction and is therefore a "new" subject. Therefore, Political Science programs at most places are awful.

If you do come to the US to do your Masters make sure that the school you're going to provides significant financial assistance (as in, fully funds your Masters and you don't really have to pay for it), because otherwise you'll be looking at spending $20,000 minimum (and as high as $100,000 depending on the school and field) for your Masters degree.

I still need to finish my bachelors here so it's like 3 more years anyways I'm not exactly in money problems, my maskinmester degree does a decent job making me money during the summer, besides i've talked this over with both the santabarbara and the pennstate one where this'll be a "joint" something crap between University of Iceland and them meaning i pay my tuition to the Icelandic school (0$) ^,^. But yeah, the USA idea came just because people poked it at me and i decided to take a look, swe/dk were always more likely.

(currently actually reading a book related to the Cold War, it is Arkady Shevchenko's account of his defection from the Soviet Union and is utterly fascinating)

(in all seriousness though, what shift has occurred. I can think of several things, but I'd like to see what you think about it)

A lot of it was the Cold War, but that was more of a catalyst than anything else. Especially in regards to Comparative Politics and International Relations, Political Science has begun to shift from a "social science" to a more "pure" science. In general, with the advent of a huge amount of (mostly qualitative) theories, and the invention of more effective data collection tools, Political Science now has the obligation to be more quantitative based than it ever was before.
