Shit was fucking retarded at times.
Horriblesubs offers a very simple base line - the default subs for a show, available almost as soon as physically possible, with no bullshit, no extras, what you see is what you get.
You see, this argument is utter nonsense. Unless you're paying a group, or /actually/ supporting them, say via donations or by taking part in the subbing process, you really have nothing to complain about. It's the equivalent of living at home, and giving your mom shit for cooking the same meal, on a regular basis for you. You paid nothing for it, had no input on it, deserve no input on it, get what you're given and that's life. It's like sneaking into the cinema, then complaining about the shitty seats you had to hide in. It's like trying to watch porn on cable in the 90s, and complaining about the encryption distortion. It's like complaining about mp3 quality, for the music you pirated.
Demanding effort and time for nothing, is pointless. Downloading group X's subs doesn't support them, it doesn't change a single thing for them. Only backers or people willing to visit their site/forum without an adblocker and sign up and click on adverts on their sites are the only people that help them at all. The reason the other groups started falling apart after Horriblesubs showed up, is more to do with the fact that they couldn't hold viewers ransom or stop people gaining access to certain shows, if they felt like it. It was amazing how many sites had 'sign-up to view' or 'donate to view' links to their downloads/videos/whatever.
They put effort in on subs and creating an audience, because they wanted money out of it. Torrents and Horriblesubs crippled that, hard. That's just how it is and it's one of the best things to happen to fansubbing. I could care less about their quality or their source's accuracy. I'm getting something for free and that's all that matters. Most people aren't even going to buy the DVD's or Blu-Rays, for any of the shows when they come out anyway.
