Only vote I cared about is Sora Yori for anime of the year. Hell, the dub voice choices aren't even good. Mikaela Krantz as Chio-chan was absolutely the best English performance of the year, but I guess that show doesn't have Chris Sabat or is called My Hero in the Franxx.

Lots of Bunny-girl Senpai, Violet Evergarden, Zombie land Saga, A Place further than the universe, Yuru camp and Aggretsuko <3

Come on, I know Winter 2018 was a long time ago, but how was the OP for Kokkoku not even nominated. That shit was awesome.

Also, Anzu is best girl. Fuck you, fight me.

I'm actually a bit surprised at that.
I expected DARHLING to be everywhere.

    • Best protagonist: abstained, because I hated Violet and wasn't interested in the other shows.
    • Best antagonist: All For One! In the span of half an hour, My Hero Academiaestablished a character I feared and utterly hated, while also giving him a tinge of villainous valor.
    • Best boy: Midoriya!
    • Best girl: abstained because I wasn't interested in those shows.
    • Best opening: abstained because I didn't like any of the openings.
    • Best ending: Akatsuki no Requiem from AoT S3

    • Best VA Japanese: abstained because I wasn't interested in those shows.
    • Best VA English: Chris Sabat as All Might absolutely killed it during the rescue arc!
    • Best director: Directing in anime has very little documentation in the Western anime community. Of the anime listed, Sakuga Blog only delved into the direction of Violet Evergarden, which you already know my thoughts on. At this point, it's basically "which show did you like more" because there is no way to delve into the specifics of the other shows. Going to spite vote for Banana Fish's Hiroko Utsumi.
    • Best animation: Violet Evergarden had fine animation and great art that was dirtied by that awful milky lens, while My Hero Academiahad amazing animation through and through. Vote is for MHA.
    • Best film: abstained because I didn't see any of those films.
    • Best character design: abstained because I dislike them all.
    • Anime of the year: Megalo Box was meh and I hated Violet Evergarden. I'm going to spite vote for Devilman Crybaby (even though I wasn't interested in it enough to watch it)
    • Best fight scene: Damn! This is a tough one: the Momoshiki fight has unparalleled fight choreography, ingenious use of Naruto and Sasuke's abilities, clever tactics and AMAZING animation! Meanwhile, All Might vs All For One told one of the most emotional shounen stories on par with Naruto vs Pain. Both had incredible music. I can't decide! I will always remember All Might vs AFO, so the vote goes to MHA
    • Best continuing series: Heh, no contest here: March Comes in like a Lion S2 is the clear winner.

I'm disappointed that Katsugeki Touken Ranbu didn't make the list; it was one of the underrated gems of the year and people wrote it off as "just another video game adaptation/cash in". Episodes 5 was intense and the last arc from episodes 8-13 was quite emotional; a lowkey inventive use of the premise.

If there was a "best music" category, my vote would be tied between Hideyuki Fukasawa's soundtrack for Katsugeki and Yuki Hayashi's soundtrack for MHA S3.

EDIT: That was 2017, my bad!

I think it says a lot about Katsugeki that I remember it so vividly over a year later but forgot most of Violet Evergaden's fluff even though I watched it six months ago

It's funny seeing Kakegurui getting nominations at all. Aside from being a 2017 show, I don't think it had any qualities that could make it a nomiee for any of the categories.

Going through the list of best taste:
    1) best protag: Joe
    2) best antag: All for One
    3) best boy: Sakuta
    4) best girl: Anzu
    5) best OP: Wotakoi
    6) best ED: Megalobox; but seriously... no HisoMaso?
    7) best VA: Mamoru Miyano, no contest
    8) best EN VA: who cares
    9) best director: I guess the SoraYori one
    10) best animation: Violet Evergarden
    11) best film: seen no 2018 movie
    12) best character design: skip
    13) AOTY: SoraYori
    14) best fight scene: the one from Boruto
    15) best continuing series: 3-gatsu no Lion

Well at least my boy Geoff agrees with me. Kokkoku OP is the best of the year.

Did you maybe link the wrong OP or something? Cause that was just about the most generic anime OP I have ever seen. Even among that type of openings, I like the one for Yuru Camp way more. Catchier song and more interesting visuals.

Kaguya-sama episode 1: Not funny, not even a little bit, narrator was mega annoying. Of course everyone else loved it. Cute secretary keeping the snobs in check was the only good part.

    Facedesk:

Womans outraged over a woman slave in anime. And manga was written by a man/woman (autor is un-known):
