It's getting pretty crazy what some immigrants will do to attempt to enter Britain, was only yesterday a ship full of immigrants heading towards the UK drowned. Unfortunately what's the solution?

The best way to address immigration based on economic conditions is to equalize the economies between all involved countries. I'd recommend raising up the poorer economies, but you could do what we did in the US and wreck your economy.

The French are not doing anything about this. As far as they are concerned, if they ignore it the problem goes away. (They are right about that, since the problem is heading North to Britain and the Nordic countries or East to the Germans)

We can't really do much to enforce on the French side because we're not allowed to just invade France and evict illegal camps...

the solution is to make the UK, and Europe as a whole, a shitty place to live. Screw up the economy, destroy social equality, remove social safety nets, fuck over the healthcare systems and remove all civil rights....then no one woudl want to come here.

And hey, we elected the Tory party, so we are well on our way to achieving that....



More seriously, not a lot we can do. Does anyone really think a few half arsed patrols in the med, and a few km of fencing guarded by poorly paid security guards at Calais is going to put off people fleeing the kinds of situations that exist in Syria, Libya, Eritrea and similar?

We'd be better welcoming our fair share, it would be less costly than the economic disruption our hysterical paranoia is causing right now.

We've had issues with Calais immigrant camps for the last 20years, long before even the Iraq war. The vast majority attempting to make the crossing are from stable African nations for economic reasons, not asylum.
