Exploration or Expedition Films/TV/Book series

Hi all. I'm looking for some recommendations based on quite a specific theme or idea. I love the idea of a group of researchers/scientists/explorers going to find a new land and having an adventure. Bit of context. I'm studying ecology and I like the outdoors and botany, so in general if there are any fictional films/tv/book series out there with this general theme, that'd be great. I've seen the old BBC drama series on the Voyage of Charles Darwin, but that's obviously non-fiction. The only film that springs to mind that is comparable, even though it's not that great, is King Kong by Jackson. Films I like following this theme are UP, The Man Who Planted Trees I'll just say that I'm not really interested in watching Into the Wild, so we can score that off.
